I have been watching the squall line for some time and was prepared.....then it hit.

Basically (for us), it went from no rain immediately to a VERY heavy downpour for about a minute or less, no change in winds and slight rain/mist after that. No different than a thunderstorm rolling through, other than how quick it went from nothing to something, back to nothing.

Prayers for those who experienced from what it sounds like, much worse. I don't watch the news and this is the first I heard of devastation. Sad...

It got within about 10 miles of us. Some towns in the 30 to 50 mile range of us were basically removed. Terrible, they are saying it could be one of the worst in history. One tornado stayed on the ground for hours and covered over 200 miles.

    Praying for all involved.

Prayers for all involved. The total devastation combined with the enormous scope make it the worst I’ve ever seen. So, so sad.

That's what really caused the big damage. Tornados usually don't stay on the ground that long. Prayers for all those who need help and lost loved ones.

This is horrific destruction :o I feel for all that are affected :(
  • I'm about 30-40 miles north of the path in KY. It got pretty nasty for a while but we suffered no damage. My yard is littered with debris (shingles, insulation, roofing paper) from it.

It’s been determined that the Mayfield, Dawson Springs event was an EF4 with 190 mph wind.

I'm in Nashville, TN, and know that areas west of here also had destruction from the same tornadoes.

Agreed...but due more to solar cycles than our 'Earthly' activities. But make no mistake...I am all about reducing polution. We need to conserve what we've got left...but the best way to do that is up for debate.

I found a sheet of return address labels from Dawson Springs in my yard. That is about 40 miles "as the crow flies" from me.
