Need some advice - what to do with SDA 2 parts?

I have come into possession of all the parts for a pair of SDA 2 including an extra set of tweeters (both SL2000 and peerless) except for the cabinets. What would you do if you were in my shoes? Sell parts? Try to build cabs? Look for a pair of cabs that need replacement parts? Everything works and is in great condition minus a small dent on one of the radiators.

Check Craigslist... Cabinets seeking drivers section 😊

Probsbly easiest to sell the parts
    - Not Tom ::::::: Any system can play Diana Krall. Only the best can play Limp Bizkit.
  • I guess it depends on which generation of SDA 2 and how much effort you want to put into it. You could probably make enough selling the parts to pick up a cheap pair in the future if you are patient.

I guess if you have the skills making cabinets is not rocket science, but I can't be sure because I definitely do not have the skills....

  • They appear to be from SDA 2 circa 1985 based on driver models and date stamps according to http://gimpod.com/sda-id.html.

    There are 2xSL2000, 2xPeerless, 3xMW6501, 2x SW120 (1 marked 83, one marked 85), and 3xMW6600X (2 marked SDA II-S, 1 marked SDA II-D). One crossover says SDA II with what seems to be a S/N in the 1500s.

    Thanks for the input!
  • Someone correct me if wrong but I do not think they ever used Peerless tweeters in any SDAs and had moved on from Peerless by the time the first SDA models were released.

  • Referring to the good book tells me that the SDA 1 used SL1000 (peerless?)

To the OP a pair of SDA 2 should have 6xMW6501 so I am not sure what you have there.

  • Gardenstater - I believe one pair was replaced with the peerless and are not original to the SDA pair the rest of the parts came from.

Navygoat - according to the site I linked to, SDA 2s did at times have MW6600x. I have found several other people stating they have these drivers in their SDA 2s so it does seem like it happened.

could be for sure. I know Polk used what they had at hand back then. I have a pair of B/B SDA-2B, go figure.

MW6501 and MW6600 are interchangeable. MW6600 being the older driver.
They came with SL1000 (silver faced) clear dome. It would be very easy to replace with original peerless. (I would)

MW6501 are feast or famine, they come up all at once or none at all.
