Circuit Board Replacement Parts TL1 Satellites

A while back we got the four TL1s with the center speaker. We are running into an issue where two of the speakers are only putting out static. We are thinking it is the circuit board inside, but I can’t seem to find replacements anywhere. Does anyone have any advice on this? The other two Satellite speakers work and the center still does, but without the surround it just isn’t the same.
Thanks.

IMO, you're better off just ordering replacements: https://www.crutchfield.com/p_107TL1B/Polk-Audio-Blackstone-TL1-Black.html

But I would be more curious why they were working initially and now they're only putting out static.

I suspect the speakers are not the problem, so try swapping the static speakers with the known working ones. Report back.

  • @Clipdat my dad went through this process before and it seemed to come to the board but he doesn't remember where he found the parts or what the part model/sn info was. So I'm just going through the same to get the question answered.

@F1nut With these two speakers we tried them on a different stereo receiver unit and the same problem happened and we tried the speaker channel with the working speakers and the channel is still working and the speakers not.

I placed a call to the support line and they gave me a few troubleshooting tips to do. Once I get that figured out I will call back and see what is next.

Thanks for the responses. I will post more as I know the answers.

Ok, that rules out the AVR. Since that isn't the problem it indicates the tweeter and driver are blown.

  • So after some more troubleshooting we found that the driver in each of the speakers is bad. Took the circuit board from a working speaker and put it in the not working ones. Then tested them with that and we had the same static issue. So it came down to the divers being bad.

For future reference, you can simply disconnect the driver lead wires, and test the coils for continuity via the +/- tabs...much easier than swapping circuit boards around.
