Receiver for Polk S55

Hey Guys,
New to speakers and receivers. I wanted to get some decent floor standing speakers for my TV/Record Player. After some "research" I got Polk S55 speakers. I need to get a receiver for them as well and was hoping you guys could suggest something. I'd prefer to spend less than $500 for one.
Also would a center channel greatly change the quality of sound from movies and records? Which one would go well with the S55?
Thanks!

No advice on the AVR, but yes, you definitely need a center channel speaker and a subwoofer for TV/movies. You don't need a center channel for 2 channel music.

Receiver depends on what you are trying to do (music vs. movies etc.) I have a yamaha rx-r6a powering my s60's and it does fine. Some here will tell you you need a dedicated power amp, I would start with something you can afford and build up as you need it. The s55's will be fine with most receivers on the market right now.

For Center Channel if you have the space I would get the S30, even though it is the cheaper of the two matching center channels in the series the larger speakers have better range. That being said, I have the S35 since I needed something to mount above my mantle and it works really well for my needs. It did take some break in and the lower range is better (to my ears) now than it was the first week of using it.
