Any snowbirds here?

Retirement for me is about a year away. The older I get, the less I enjoy shoveling snow and winter in general. So our plan is we leave here after Christmas and return early March(gotta get the veggie garden going). While I'll miss the stereo rig during the months I listen to it most, the trade off for warmer temps will be worth it... I hope.
How did any snowbirds here decide on their destinations? We will always have at least 1 dog, so our temp home will need to be within 2 days travel of central Pennsylvania.
How did you find your rental?

I have 'plans' on doing the same when the wife retires one day. We went to the Venice, FL. area this past Spring and had a look at some winter home options. With 900 people a day moving into that state (when we were there) housing was an issue.
Good, clean Real Estate was a shocker we will be renting when the day comes, providing there's any place left to rent att -
I moved to Tennessee 5 years ago. Turned down
job offers to go back up North and I'm glad I did.
Pretty good climate most of the year. Snow and ice are rare.
There's a couple months of humid hot weather.
Rentals are out there but prices are way up.
Florida is pretty popular right now. So doubly
hard in most places.
I just stopped working a month ago and don't have
A clue where I want to live. Right now staying put
is just fine. Good luck with your search.

We plan to visit Tennessee, not sure if it will be in the winter though. Currently have my eye on Jekyll Island, Georgia.Yep, my name really is Bob.

From next year's community newsletter:
This is a photo of Robert "MuncyBob" O'Hallorhan and family wintering at the family's second home on Jekyll Island.
Bob is currently planning a new audio system for the tower, featuring eight Rythmik subwoofers. (This writer does not know what a subwoofer is for, but it sounds cool.) Roquet!
