Hello,
I would like to know if
1. HTS 12 is front firing only?
2. It can be placed in a open cabinet which is 3" from the floor
3. The USB port be used to update the drivers, if possible where can I get the software and how to update?

Telephone 1-800-377-7655 for product information. However, I believe the best performance is with the power port near a large reflective surface (usually the floor) and the 12" woofer unobstructed. In general terms subwoofers and speakers won't sound their best when placed inside cabinets.
The USB port is for product testing during construction, not driver updating.
