Polk Monitor10 conversion to center channel

Hello. Just got a pair of Monitor 10A with Peerless tweeters for nothing. I now have 3 sets of these. I was wondering if I can take the top half of the speaker ( tweeter, woofers) and cut the bottom part out with the PR and use it as a center channel. I can do all the woodworking involved to make it less tall but maintain the crossover, width and depth.

Anyone forsee any problems?

The crossover and drivers will produce sound in that configuration. No clue how it will sound? I would think it would be very bass shy. On the plus side the mids and highs would be a great match *assuming* you are using a pair of Monitor 10s of the same vintage for the L/R. If you are not going to use the same generation M10 then I would be less inclined to try it.

Maybe you could find a CRS passive radiator in a part out somewhere. I would be curious to know haw a M10/CRS hybrid would sound? I bet that would hit the spot for you.

To answer your question I don't see any major problems and it should be doable. If you have the space I would recommend at least trying a functional and full sized M10 as a center before you fabricate a new cab.

You'd be better off using a Monitor 4 or 5.

The form factor of the original MiniMonitor would work well from an HT center channel perspective (if the goal is an HT center). I am not trying to insinuate it would be the best possible HT center channel (with a pair of Monitor 10s)... but it would work aesthetically. B)

If the object of the game is stereo with a mono center fill in -- go for the gusto.

A pair of A5-500s flanking an A-8. That'll get the job done for real movies with real stars... like Barbara Stanwick and Kathryn Hepburn and Jimmy Stewart and Gregory Peck and...
