How many of you would say that your home theatre sounds better than a movie theatre?

    throw in the full reclining leather seating,
    control of the pause button, for beer breaks and the bathroom breaks it inspires, the lack of crying babies or worse the loud mouth sitting behind you who has to explain everything to his plot challenged girlfriend, the driving to and back costs, the 20+ bucks admission for one viewing, the oops we didn't know it was going to be so crowded, should have come earlier to stand in line for better seats.....
    HELL YES! best investment I ever made.

    If it was just me and a friend or two in a movie theater with a certified sound system, I'd say the movie theater would have better sound. Under real conditions, movie theaters are barely tolerable to me and I have to have a really good reason to be dragged to see a movie in one.

    Home Theater! Not only does it sound better, but looks better as well. Plus, gotta love that pause button, no more missed scenes due to popkorn and drink trips.

    My HomeTheater - hands down. For what people pay to go see a movie - I own the DVD. I go about twice a year - if that. And usually don't enjoy the experience all around.

    I recently went to see The Day After Tomorrow. Aside from the actual movie dissapointment, I was VERY dissapointed with the sound quality...sure it was loud, but it sounded like crap. And I wasn't going to a crap theater either

    I think I'm just spoiled on my sound at home...

    I think home theater sounds better. The smaller room, the comfortable chair, the lack of annoyances, as all here have stated. Plus, I just think a HT speaker setup makes for a more intimate sound experience than a movie theater. A good sub will shake a living room in a way that impacts more than most theaters as well. However, I just saw Riddick at a local theater, and the sound was great, but there was a lot of talking going on right around me. Just not worth it for $10 a pop. Plus, I had to endure that horrible program Edwards/Regal Theaters puts on called "The 20." If we have to watch a bunch of **** commercials, they should offset the price. Remember the good ole days when they played film scores or classical up until the movie played, and then only showed previews instead of Coke commercials? DVD and a good HT speaker system is the only way to go. Maybe an occasional trip to the theater for a really big film, but to tell you the truth the sound and picture have been so variable lately, I'm not sure I want to chance it anymore. Now if only I could afford a digital projector at home...

    Regardless of my feelings about Theaters, I still wouldn't want to see them done away with. After all, how would that impact the at home bussiness? In a negitive way I believe. I think without the major draw of the big box office, alot of flims would never see the light of day.

    Commercials are my add for whats next on DVD;)

    The last movie I saw at the theater was the Matrix and I could not waite till it hit the dvd list. I think people pay more attention to THX at home than public distribution which is a shame. We collectively need a Gold standard.

    Theaters are not going away by a long shot. What I find funny is, the people that are the first inline at the movies are the same people running out to buy thier VHS copy to watch on thier 20 year old 19" tv.;)

    definitly the home theater is a much better experience for me. it doenst help that the leows theater closest to me just has horrendous sound quality. too sharp, tinny, if they leave the volume too loud, it is very fatigueing, downright painfully bright.
    this easily makes the home theater a much better experience. i have hated movies in the theater but liked them at home, the difference is just that severe!

    I would go with HT, there are only three theatres around here that I have found that are more/as enjoyable as watching them at home. Only one of them is much better... For all you Dallas Polkies, if you can stand the crowd, the new AMC18 and Valley View is awsome (Completed late May) and beats the Cinemark Legacy by quite a bit...

    HT without a doubt. We still hit the theaters once in a while, but my rigs SQ blows away that competition. I don't even need butt kickkers, and I haven't even got my SVS's yet!

    Plus having a 61" WS RP DLP 13' away kills the theater PQ.

    No missed scenes and

    I can drink as much beer as I want to!!! :p

    Very cool and killer setup, Sami.

    Just interested what was your decision on the PC Ultra - for $100 more you could have got the PB2 PLUS. Basicaly twice the power.
    Other than shape and footprint??????
    I am looking at the two but am pretty SOLD on the PB2+.........

    I thought the PCU and PB2+ were about the same on output with a small edge to PB2+ while the PCU will go down much lower if needed (12/16/20Hz tuning points vs. 16/20/25Hz). The room I will be moving my HT doesn't need even the PCU power so I wanted the extra low extension. I got the PCU for less than $1100 shipped (B-stock) so there was about $250 difference in price. And I was coming from 16-46PCi which I thought would have been enough for the new room.

    With both set to the 20 Hz tune, the PB2+ will have a 4-5 dB edge in clean output >25 Hz than a single PC-Ultra.

    From 16-25 Hz, the gap closes but the PB2 still retains an edge.

    Aside the output pressure, PC Ultra has a better (single) woofer and single band equalizer. The ability to go lower and the $200 price difference were my determining factors. Is the sheer output on PCU and PC+ the same (watts on the amp are the same)?

    I don't think you can go wrong with either one. Even my old 16-46PCi was great but PCU is a big improvement and I haven't even tuned it very well yet.

    I think if you still have the urge to waste your money going to a movie theater, you need to invest more in your home theater. IMO if you have a good HT, there is no way you would want to throw your money away at a movie theater.

    65" mits HDTV, fronts Rti6's, center Csi3, rears Fxi3's, Onkyo 601 receiver, and lets not forget Voom.

    Don't mean to clog the thread with SVS stuff but Scott doesn't have PM or e-mail enabled so here is my last post on SVS on this thread, I promise.

    Scott, before you make your final decision, here is a review of the PB2 Ultra. A lot of praise for the TV12 Ultra driver. Just in case the PCU delivers enough SPL for your room, it might be an option to consider as it might sound better. Have you asked Tom about the sound in equal SPL levels? Anyway, here is the link:

    Thanks Sami, I am sure the PCU is an amazing sub but to me it just seems your getting alot more with the PB2+. Dual drivers, almost twice the amp power and easy access to the ports. The ports fire towards the wall rather than up and out. And they seem to have sold more units. And to think this was thier flagship no long ago. Being old school also it is hard for me to imagine the quality of bass from a cardboard tube. But i'm sure they rock.

    I'd go HT route now it's not the best but the benefits outweigh going to see a movie anytime...and all the money I have put into it so far I better use it...thats what my wife says
