Yesterday was a very good day. BYU got beat by Baylor, Utah beat Arizona State and my beautiful 1986 SRS2’s were supplanted by a pristine pair of 2.3TL’s. One owner, bought in Okinawa in the early 90’s. Legitimately perfect condition, mine for $750! 😍 Cranked them up yesterday sound awesome. Very, very happy. 🤘🏻🤘🏻
I am curious if anyone can shed more light on the progressive point source tweeter arrays? I read the bit in the manual, but I’d like to better understand the physics going on there. I notice that the top tweeter has almost zero output, is that normal? Any of you smart guys care to share your knowledge? Thanks!

This thread may help understand the PPS.

Nice find! Those look like they’re fresh out of the box from 30 years ago. Even the TL tweeters aren’t looking tarnished at all and the butyl rubber surrounds aren’t browning. Doubt there’s a better looking stock pair out there!
Progressive point source just means the high frequency response is spread in different ranges across all three tweeters. The speakers wouldn’t sound right with three tweeters all covering the same range. What you are hearing is normal but one way to check they are indeed all doing something is to put an empty paper towel roll up to each tweeter and listen through that. No need to put a white lab coat on first.

Bottom tweeter is full on, middle about 1/2 and as you noticed the bottom is very low.
Nice grab! I enjoy mine, recapped and all goodies are even better -
I have plugged the 2.3tl crossover in my software and essentially the upper tweeters are progressively less in volume but are crossed over the same. But the differences in volume are fairly substantial- Not Tom ::::::: Any system can play Diana Krall. Only the best can play Limp Bizkit.
