What is the plate structure and color?

I've used both the ladder plates and 5751 type plates. I find them a good linear tube. Good bass and not a tizzy top end. The 5751 plates are a little more solid.
I cannot speak for the gray plates as all mine are black.
If I was to use one word it would be
    Accurate.

They are long black plates, but don’t know anything beyond that.

“Accurate”; what more could one ask?

    Thanks!

They are worth a try if they are not asking stupid money for them. I like the Raytheon black plates and Westinghouse black ladder plates. Both have great sound. This goes for both 12au and 12ax. My pre uses both.
I stumbled upon a set of Raytheon 5751's triple mica black plate windmill getters. They were not cheap but they are very hard to get. Its killing me! I found them NOS after I had to tear the rig down. A year ago I found a set of 12au's same plate structure same everything cept au. One of these days when I get my rig up hearing a full compliment of the Raytheon's in the pre. Sublime!

    I can get’em for $350/pr., normally $500/pr.

I really don’t want to spend the discounted price, cuz still rather steep, IMO.

I do not blame you. That's crazy money. Do you have a link?
Honestly there are very good Raytheon tubes from organ manufacturers for far far less money that still are great tubes.
The NOS windmills I just bought were 80.00ea and I coughed at that but bit the bullet.

Tube Depot had a sale, but not sure if it’s still going. It was a 48-hr deal.

I decided to keep my cash.

Just looked at them. I'd buy Baldwin Raytheon tubes on ebay for $200+ cheaper. 😁

That's way too much. Glad to see you didn't pull the trigger. Tube sellers are getting ridiculous with prices. Glad I stocked up years ago!!!!
If you can't hear a difference, don't waste your money.

I agree, but inflation/supply&demand are only gonna make this worse with time, I’m afraid.

Glad you were ahead of the curve getting yours, though. Congrats!
