Recommendations for Calibration?

Has anyone used Ultimate DVD Platinum or Avia? Are they worth the money? If not any other recommendations for calibration.

I would like piece of mind that my setup sounds as good as it can, but I wonder just what I would be able to do to improve the sound stage with one of these calibrators. I can't really move the speakers or furniture. Any thoughts appreciated.

Onkyo 601, CSi3 center, RTi6's fronts, FXi3's rears

    Ditto.

And check my thread over at HTF on Avia vs. DVE for subwoofer calibration. DVE has a 10 dB flaw in the encoding.

    Hey Johnny,

A while back when I bought one of the better Toshiba dvd players the SD-9100 there was a dvd included called the Video Essentials THX-certified calibration tool and covers all aspects of the audio (incl subwoofer) and video calibration process.

I have an old Sony tv and I had never seen a picture this good on any of my tvs - ever - than on the Sony after I did the calibration.

I don't know if it is comparable to the AVIA, but it came with the flagship dvd from Toshiba so it can't be all bad.

Calibration of full system took about 2hrs

    To my point here:

I don't know how much these dvds cost, but this one is just laying around doing nothing so if you want it and save yourself some bux, drop me an email with your address and I will send it to you, free of charge with shipping on me.

At least it will take you in the right direction. Did wonders for my HT setup.

    Michael.

Sound & Vision disk is nice and easy.

Digital Video Essentials is a pain, the navigation menus are AWFUL.

    Haven't seen Avia in action...

And the subwoofer calibration tone is 10 dB too hot. Overall, what a huge disappointment.

I really liked the original VE. DVE had very high expectations - took over a year to develop. I havent tryed any of the others. I use them for video calibration. I use my Onkyo's for sound calibration.
