dvd player hacks

has anyone ever tried hacking their dvd players....my marantz is said to have a hack to enable to play vcd and svcd......dunno if I should try

    I used a firmware downloaded from the net to hack my cheapie Apex to region free. It works like a charm.

    Yeah I'm a newbie and this may be a dumb question but I never heard of this before. I know what the region codes are but can someone enlighten me as to the advantages of doing this, what it does, etc., etc.

    if you are in Northamerica we all share one code wich the dvd's have as well in japan they have their on codes and dvd codes to match. I think its to prevent contries from exporting/importing contraband dvds

    I have a lot movies from my home country and they have a different region code (or actually they all the regions included in the DVD). Players that are not code free do not play DVD with a different region code. In here we have region 1 discs and players. Buy a DVD from Europe and it will not play on that region 1 player.

    to add to sami...unless you hack your dvd player and add that zone
