Not many of us will die having left such a mark on the world. Requiescat in pace, Mr. Watts. 🙏

I'd encourage you to give a listen to Mr. Watts practicing his craft behind the late Ronnie Lane (et al.) on the song Catmelody, from Pete Townshend and Lane's beautiful, somewhat elegiac minor masterpiece, Rough Mix.

Very sad day, RIP. I've always wondered when one of the core members of the Stones would pass as they are all getting pretty old
    .
Saw them in 72 while in college, great performance along with Stevie Wonder.

Terrible news. 80 is too young to pass. Ironically, he was the one Stone who didn't party. RIP

Amazing Keith is still here. I'm convinced at the end of the world all that will be left is him and Twinkies...

I'd say he partied just a little

On this date 40 years ago Tattoo You was released. Side 2 of the vinyl (the so-called ballad side) is great. Waiting On A Friend is still a great video. Must’ve been pretty nuts in the early days. Gonna watch Charlie is My Darlin’ this evening. Very early days. Hard to believe they ruled all these years. RIP.

Tattoo You was my first Stones purchase. I bought the 8 track as a 10 year old about 40 years ago.

Always liked Charlie’s drumming. Maybe I’m off base here, but I always think of it as understated, yet great.

I had forgotten he passed as well . Thx Doc.
  • It turns out the photo I posted showing Mr. Watts sitting at a desk with some audio gear behind him is even more interesting than I thought.

I knew I had seen that particular collection of Tandberg decks before and I searched for Louis Armstrong and tape recorders. It seems the photo had been taken with Mr. Watts sitting at Louis' desk at the Armstrong Museum (even more if a coincidence I remember Polk's Paul DiComo visiting this same place) in front of the Tandbergs and Marantz preamp.

hmmm... I was getting a distinct Photoshop vibe when I saw that photo. :#
'cause I knew them Tandbergs were Louis'.

I could be wrong, though, about the reality (or not) of the image of Mr. Watts at Satchmo's desk.

Mr. Watts @ Mr. Armstrong’s desk, picture was taken 9.03.19, Jazz was Charlie’s real love.

Been listening to more Stones than usual the last few days. What stands out to me with Charlie's drumming, is the simplicity. He had the gift for playing exactly what was needed. For the most part nothing flashy, just the right amount to pull it all together to make a great song, exceptional. RIP Mr Watts.

Definitely not flashy but the Atomic Clock is not as accurate as his back beat.
