Anybody remember who the "PG&E" band is on the Fillmore marquee? Try to resist Google, if possible.

Pacific Gas and Electric?
BTW nice scene, that would have been a fun lineup. The best way to predict the future is to invent it.

BTW nice scene.
That would've been my choice... -
That is correct, nicely done. Was there a group called "Cactus"? Or, "Voices"? Local bands maybe?

Mike PInera of Iron Butterfly fame was the lead guitarist of Cactus.
In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida
Not familiar with the Voices. The best way to predict the future is to invent it.

There were some bands named after companies or pseudo companies, "Chicago Transit Authority" and "The 1910 Fruitgum Company" come to mind. I'm sure there were others.
-
I only know Pacific Gas & Electric for their hit "Are You Ready?" from a Rhino Records 70s compilation CD.
Cactus was what Vanilla Fudge members Carmine Appice and Tim Bogert did between Vanilla Fudge and Beck, Bogert, & Appice. A friend lent me one of their albums in the mid-80s, along with Dust and Bang, but it has been so long, I don't recall what they sounded like.

They were on fire, but they flamed out.
They had at least one hit song that I recall, FWIW.

The actual Chicago Transit Authority, I remember reading at some point (long ago), made 'em change their name... which they did.

Of course Grand Funk Railroad was another "company" name.
-
You guys are just making these names up!I disabled signatures.

Oh, the sixties.
the sixties
Don't forget... Blue Cheer
"It's a rock group!"
"It's a laundry detergent!"
"It's an hallucinogen!" -
... and... and...
The Electric Prunes.
OK, not a company (AFAIK) -- but very sixties. -
Speaking of rock and roll and cleaning products...
Blues for Allah has a track, King Solomon's Marbles, which consists of two parts: "Stronger Than Dirt" [or] "Milkin' the Turkey". The former part interpolates the once-famous Ajax Laundry Detergent Stronger Than Dirt jingle as a theme.

... as, of course, does the last line of the Doors' Touch Me.

the.
sixties.
'nuff said.
(OK, Blues for Allah was the 'seventies -- but it's also the Dead, so time really has no meaning...)

Blue Cheer song “Piece of Mind” is on my memorial song list. The best way to predict the future is to invent it.

"Canned Heat" is actually referring to Sterno, a once popular alcohol source.
-
^^^ good point!
-
Then there are bands named after food related things. Such as The Flying Burrito Brothers. -
More food related……The Peanut Butter Conspiracy…….yummy.

PG&E had a lot of great music and all bands mentioned here are nothing short of great!"if it's not fun, it's not worth it & remember folks, "It's All About The Music"!!

There's Humble Pie, of course.

^^ I was fortunate enough to catch their farewell tour 1974.
Was always a big Steve Marriott fan. One of the most underrated vocalists in Rock and a darn good musician.
