I've tried so many I can't really remember the last one I had in there. I've had quite a few RCA's.... clear top, a black top 5814A, black plate, a 50's square getter, a Siemens E82CC, a Telefunken, a Bugle Boy and maybe a couple others. The Brimar is a really good one that doesn't really have any weak areas.

Agree I've liked the Brimars I've used. Recently I've noticed a lot of the mid to late 80's era Brimars have hit the market. I do not have any Brimar tubes that are any later than 1965 so I can't comment on the 80's tubes.

Try it, you've got nothing to lose.

It's really hard to read the date code on this but it looks like 8C3/3987.
The 4 digits after the slash are the tube type of CV4003 and indicate a post 1960 manufacture date,
and in the first 3 digits the 8 indicates week of production month, the 3 indicates the month (March) and the 3 indicates the year, in this case it could be either 1963 or 1973.
