Polk R600 review

in Speakers
So after pondering back and forth for over a month between the R600’s and the L200’s I ended up buying the R6’s.
Reason I went with the R’s are because I figured I needed an “equal” sized speaker in comparison to my Rtia7’s. In hopes that the newer technology/engineering quality of the R600 they’d be superior to the RTiA7.
They were great on the top end and midrange. The difference was huge in clarity and imaging and soundstage. A lot more airy sound, and taller, slightly wider soundstage than the rti’s. At 1st I had them way too close to my walls and the bass was ridiculous. Way too much…
They were placed in the same position from walls as the rti’s but all it took was a few more inches away from the walls and I noticed a big improvement. As you’ve read I said were, because I’m sending them back today.
Living in an upstairs apartment it’s tough to get away with a nice speaker like that without passing off my neighbors. In order to get the pure enjoyment or feel from them you’ve gotta start to open them up. Throwing that much power at them they start to sound great on well recorded tracks/albums.
I’m all over the place on this review.
Anyways, the best were live recordings,(Pink Floyd) acoustic albums(Alice In Chains, Nirvana, Shinedown). Norah Jones or any jazz sounded incredible in comparison to the rti’s. In fact they play everything really good. From Pink Floyd, Fleetwood Mac, Radiohead to Tool, Motley Crue to Sia, Adele…the bass from pop music is way too deep for my sized apartment. As well as Tool and the drums, in order to sound great it’s way too loud prolly for my neighbors haha.
The more I write about em I’m wondering why the hell I’m sending them back. Actually Im just not sure they’re $1600 improvement, also it’s the size of my apartment (the way it’s shaped). Also, I think I was really hoping for a much wider soundstage, that feeling of hearing the track far left/rt and almost behind ya almost I guess. Clearly the room setup is affecting that.
I am thinking now I probably should’ve gone with the L200’s because of hopefully being able to put more power through them without rattling the floor/walls.
If I’m crazy or anyone has an opinion on that thinking, please let me know. I tried to get my thoughts down for this, sorry if I’m all over the place, it’s my 1st time reviewing anything like this.
Equipment…streaming Qobuz to an Auralic LE, —NAD M51, —Parasound HCA2200ii
Quick question, are the fact that the R600’s and the L200’s (if I get them) being 4ohms be making the Parasound “produce” more bass than 8ohm Rtia7’s?
Thank you…
