Polk monitor 40 overheated 2 Sony receivers

Playing cds on a 2 channel Sony stereo receiver with my Polk monitor 40 speakers at low-mid volume blew the receiver by overheating it. Replaced receiver. Blew that one too. They had worked for years without trouble. What kind of receiver should I get to power these speakers without fearing overheating?

    If by mid volume you mean half of the volume knob it is possible you're playing too loud especially if you have a bunch of bass EQd in. There's really not enough info to go on here though.
