refurbished surround receivers

How much reliance is there in purchasing REFURBISHED surround receivers (or anything for that matter)? Some of the e-tailers I visited includes a 90-day warranty on parts and labor. Has anyone experienced problems with these sorts of deals? How would one get warranty on items that occur AFTER the warranty expiration date? Please share your experiences/thoughts.

Ginkus,
Often refurbished products go through more extensive testing after restoring the product than new items do. While the reliability of electronics has increased tremendously with quality control by some manufacturers often the individual parts such as capacitors, resistors, etc. are manufactured by a third party. There are quality control limits which regulate the quality of these parts. Occasionally, yes one may get one part that goes bad usually with the first month or so of operation. After that part is replaced and retested it is good as new. Now there may be the "lemons" out there but I haven't read about too many of those lately. If anyone else has let us know.
You will find that companies like Harmon Kardon, NAD, and Marantz offer nice discounts on refurbished gear. There are others as well. -

refurb receivers are set up to factory specs and tested before they are sold again. I would have no problem purchasing a refurb receiver from a name brand maker.PolkFest 2012, who's going>?

Refurbed Onkyo 700 from OneCall.com (Huppins in WA.). Had the Onkyo factory "refurb" sticker(s).. Works like a champ. It had a 90day warranty? I wouldn't buy a refurb that didn't have some kind of warranty, but luckily I didn't need it.- Sony 50"A3000 SXRD; Onkyo TX-SR 805

I have a friend who purchased a refurb h/k 525 from harmanaudio.com with no problems. Sounds and looks great, also most of the refurbs carry the original warranty. They also give you 30 days to return the product (of course you have to pay shipping to return the item).Receiver: harmankardon AVR235

I've gotten refurbished Pioneer receivers and Panasonic DVD recorders and players for myself and my brothers that are great. I also have a refurbed Nikon 995 digital camera. All were great buys and I've never had any problems. I highly recommend Refurbs, and now I always look for refurb deals as avidly as I look for sales.

A note on refurbished Onkyo receivers....you can purchase Onkyo factory extended warranty over at Onkyo's website anytime during the refurblish warranty period, which I believe is one year. It doesn't cost that much....$50.00 or under.
