Facebook Marketplace Shipping

Been perusing fb marketplace lately and have noticed the shipping costs listed for sellers willing to ship are insanely low. Like $20 for a large pair of floor standers. Say what? Hard to believe. Anybody with experience buying shipped items from fb marketplace?

Fb provides the label based off their input of one box- Not Tom ::::::: Any system can play Diana Krall. Only the best can play Limp Bizkit.
-
So what happens after you go through the checkout process and the seller realizes it'll cost more to ship than the selling price. I assume they will refuse and the deal is dead?
-
Or are you saying fb blindly supplies shipping labels to sellers? Also hard to believe.
-
Facebook supplies a label for the cost listed, you are paying for it. If it's for one box.
Facebook like Amazon has negotiated great rates for shipping.
Now whether the deal goes through or not, I'd probably message the seller first personally.

I have a difficult time finding decent stuff on Facebook Marketplace to reach the shipping stage.
Any particular recommendations when searching for a particular item. For example, searching for "Marantz" anything doesn't seem to isolate only Marantz items as everything else is mixed in."Sometimes you have to look to the past to understand where you are going in the future"Anger is just anger. Is the issue keyword spamming (i.e., is "Marantz" in there someplace in the hits) or some esoteric FB "you might also like" algorithm trying to get you to shift your buying preferences? This is a rhetorical question -- I'm just curious.

I tried the buy it now and check out and they charge tax. A $500 amp was over $40 in tax. Save on shipping but pay the tax.

Well, in fairness, the tax goes into different pockets than do shipping charges.

MH, those are two good questions. Maybe "yes" is the answer to both.
I tend to subscribe to your lead. Years ago, I signed on and there was all of my personal info that I didn't enter. No more of it for me, except a look a the Marketplace now and then.

So, who is charging you tax, and why?
Certainly 'real' online retailers shouldn't.
If you have sales tax added to a purchase, and there isn't any in your state, you should be able to file to get it back. There's -- so far -- no Federal sales tax, per se. -

Yeah, if there is applicable tax, which, as you say, there isn't for you, nor for us.
No one's ever charged any tax on a purchase made by me & delivered here (i.e., NH). I kid you not.
Here's an example. I ordered a coupla thingies from Logitech early today & got the shipment confirmation this afternoon. Here's a screenshot cropped from the confirmation email.
I ordered some stuff Monday from Troy-Bilt (they had a parts sale); here's the bottom line from the confirmation email I got.
There's either something weird going on with retail sales to TX, or we're talking about different kinds of tax(?). EDIT: Oh, income tax. Sorry! I thought you were talking about sales tax. No income tax here, either, actually, but of course if one is, e.g., selling one's goods via eBAY or Etsy, or whatever, Federal income tax can come into play. Again, one should be able to file for a refund -- of course, depending upon one's tax status.
I have to pay MA state income tax for the income from the course I teach in Boston -- those lucky blighters.

No income tax in TX doesn't mean no sales tax......or does it?George / NJ

Destination-Based Tax States
Most states have a destination-based sales tax. Each sale is considered to take place in the jurisdiction where the product is ultimately used—where it’s shipped to or picked up from.2 For example, you would charge Georgia's sales tax if the customer takes possession of the product there if someone from Florida purchases an item from your Georgia brick-and-mortar store.2-channel: Modwright KWI-200 Integrated, Dynaudio C1-II Signatures

But, again, no sales tax in NH. Thus "most states" in the quote above posted by @txcoastal1. NH ain't "most states" Delaware likewise has no sales tax (and, likewise, ain't "most states" )
Not sure what other states don't -- maybe Alaska? I mean... I could look.
-
heh -- I looked:The following five states currently have no statewide sales tax: Alaska, Delaware, Montana, New Hampshire and Oregon.

Looks like TX does have sales tax -- which is why, if you order stuff online & get it delivered to TX, they charge sales tax. TX sales tax.
If Google is to be believed, the TX state sales tax is 6.25% (with the opportunity for local tax of up to an additional 2%).
NH is a nice place to buy an automobile (or an airplane or yacht or whatnot, I would guess).
Several of the 'big' car dealerships are in VT, but if the car is sold in VT and registered in NH, there's no sales tax collected (e.g., I paid no sales tax on my Soobie when I got it, even though it was purchased in VT).
EDIT: For the record (and per Google) VT sales tax is 6%.

Here as well in Illinois. Prior to that only stores that had physical store in Illinois would charge tax.
Stuff I buy off ebay can be anywhere from 9 -14% tax rate. -
Right -- I think (???) the Federal law changed -- or it might been on a state-to-state basis. States didn't like the loss of sales tax revenue, so state-to-state purchases (like old-time "mail order" and new-time internet commerc) became taxable.
We're gonna see changes in "energy" taxes soon, I am sure, since electric vehicles don't use gasoline, there's more and more gasoline tax revenue lost every day. I presume it will shift to road use taxes, and since cars are "smart" now and keep track of stuff, it'll be easy enough to keep tabs on the actual miles cars travel. -
Yes, the law changed a few years ago, but there are still exceptions. For example, Magico speakers are made a few miles from me in CA. However, I bought my S5 speakers from a small dealer in FL and paid no sales tax, and Magico shipped them to my house. Same with Pass gear. It is made in CA, but sold by both a Nevada dealer with no sales tax, and the same FL vendor as with the speakers. This is all within the last 5 years, and I don't think the law has changed since then.Lumin X1 file player, Westminster Labs interconnect cable
