I thought you were either talkin' about that volleyball or that guy who was Tim the Toolman's neighbor.

No, but I have heard of such things. -
I went to high school with a kid named Steve Wilson. Don't think it's the same guy (as any of those).

The new album is different but Steven Wilson knows it and made deliberate decisions with a different producer. He considers it an ongoing evolution that is the result of feeling stagnated with progressive rock. To me it doesn't seem like that much of a departure from the last couple of solo projects he's done. The video below indicates his admiration for later Tears for Fears "pop" albums as one of his top five progressive albums. I know for the last few years he's been viewed in the industry as the best musician hardly anybody's heard of, until the last couple of albums. Long but good interview below that explains what he's thinking these days, including his views on remastering, surround sound audio, and high end audio...

Note he also mentions Massive Attack's "Mezzanine" album as one of his top LPs. Now he's said that I can definitely hear it's influence in his music.

Scott, I only found out about the guy from this video and was interested because of what he said about doing stuff in the recording studio that you can't do live also the story behind that album was so weird that I bought it. Since then I must have 20 disc (CD, Blew Ray, DVD). I took my daughter to his concert and she loved it although it's not her type of music. I got seats up front for the show as it turns out they weren't seats. I stood for over two hours and actually didn't mind.
