Upgrading HT System, need help on choosing

Currently using Monitor 10B's with CS1 and M30 surrounds with a Yamaha (low/mid level) receiver. The room is 20x24 with 9' ceilings. Will be used 98% for home theater. Wife wants a narrower footprint than the 10B's. Will move them to a music only setup. Some options I'm considering.
A used Tsi400 set with tsi200's and CS10, asking $400
Crutchfield has the Rtia5 for 420/pair.
Also a used tsia7 and center for $550, but they may be too large and not sure receiver can handle.
Also considering non-Polk options
Jamo S809 HT set (adorama has for $400)
Klipsch 610F set ($500 at adorama)
There is a used Klipsch RP-260 nearby
Or finally Klipsch R4000
Any others? thoughts?
Obviously, trying to stay around $500, but don't mind only getting a pair now and more later.
thanks

I would grab those the RTI A5 towers for $219 fast and match them with CSI A6 as your center, it is the most important speaker for HT, $199 is at Amazon for the Csi A6 center.

Make sure you have enough room for the CSI A6, It is a big center, if not, i would try and find a way to fit it in somehow, its a nice center for $199 its a steal!

The CSI A4 is the normal size center but you should get the CSI6 if you are using your system for 98% HT, its well worth getting the big boy you will thank me later.. :)

You wont find a better speaker line for that pricerange right now then the RTI series imo, there made with quality materials, oval cabinets that are more often found in $500-$1000 a pair speakers, I paid twice as much for my set like 5yrs ago and I'm still using them in a spare TV room.. Good Luck
  • Just saw Infinity's 253 on a great deal. How would they compare?

Those have been on sale off and on for the last 3 yrs. There JBL 530s sold pretty fast but, they can't give the Harmon Reference line away? I think it is for being way to laid back and that makes for a boring HT speaker imo, they are ok for that price, just very vanilla, even with the metal dome CMMD tweeter, Also do not worry about the sale, they are having trouble selling there stock, Slickdeals website has there whole history of that sale with that line, the bigger center for $140 is a good deal, it being a true 3 way.

Revel took over Harmon's home Audio and they went Auto Audio bit time! if you want good Harmon speakers these days "buy Revel" they are out of the Home Audio market nowadays, They still have a huge Pro audio market. I beleived they are still the biggest speaker maker in the world last time I checked.

    Joseph Bailey,
I assumed by your options above, you are wanting a lively sounding home theater speaker.
If you haven't heard any of these lines, I would get ears on as many as possible, That way, you can establish what you like.

If your using this speaker set for 98% HT, I do recommend Polk RTI, Tsi or Klipsch RP lines, they hold there value well and are usually a pretty safe bet that you will be able to sell them if you didn't like what you hear. Stay clear of the unpopular brands, unless your sure you are going to keep the speakers for a long time.
Once you buy those unpopular brands, you can lose up to 75% of there value once it hits your trunk..
    Good Luck!

here is another good deal on some solid HT speakers..

  • Ended up with the Infinity's and really like them. Not quite as much bass, but tighter. Sound is not that different from the 10B's which is a good thing. Better imaging I think, and more detailed high end. Moving the 10B's to another room.
    Thanks

Good to hear, your ears are what matters, Harmon has to be ordering more stock of that Ref line? they have been selling those as final stock for years now, But they keep having that same sale. I am glad you like them.

Did you get the big boy center or the smaller 2 way one? I like how they are using that BMR flat mid style design for better off axis coverage with that big Center channel and how its a 3-way design for $150 is a deal!
