    I couldn't believe she was 96!
    She just published an autobiography -- in fact, she was interviewed just this past weekend about it on NPR! I don't think she was planning to die (any time soon)... :(

    I think it is kind of ironic that The Autobiography of Miss Jane Pittman had her in the guise of a (IIRC?) 100-year-old woman* looking back at her life and struggles for equal treatment.

    * actually, according to Wiki-p, 110 years old :)

  • ..With all due respect to Cicely Tyson and to the other women mentioned in the PBS series, one name is IMO sorely lacking:

    Eartha Kitt

    Her actions at Lady Bird's Women's Luncheon back in 1968 were....MONUMENTAL.
    Cajones of steel, on a gargantuan level.

    Here's a minor snippet of Ms. Kitt briefly interacting with LBJ as he attempted to leave the podium.
    Doesn't seem very confrontational, does it ?
    What you see is Ms. Kitt's career being targeted for destruction, especially with her later comments to Lady Bird regarding the Vietnam War
    (Archivists are searching for the audio of that interaction which seems to have "disappeared")
    .

    Worth having an addional look-see IMO at the events at that luncheon.

    Yep, Cajones of Steel

  • Cicely Tyson rest in peace. You led an incredible life and an inspiration to many.

    You can use it to build or to destroy. You just have to make the choice.
