Greetings all. I’m running Polk Lsim 705 for the fronts, 706c for the center and 702 f/x for surrounds along with a Rythmik E15HP for mixed music and home theater. The AVR driving them is the Denon X4400H 125 wpc at 8ohms and three Outlaw 2200 amps for the left right and center 200 wpc 8ohms. I sit 12.4 feet away from the speakers

I am mostly happy with this setup it is picky about source material. But I do find it I crank the volume -10dB the sound gets a bit unpleasant and harsh, including dialogue noise floor that comes through. Room treatments, calibration aside could I benefit from more power? I was reading about a user having D-SONIC amp at 800 WPC and mentioning the amp delivering the transients very cleanly at reference levels. Is this a good place to look? Or am I wasting my time? I’m not sure what I’m hearing is distortion or something else.

here is the NHT amp its a match to the outlaw 2200

    Hello Pawelmwo,
We have the same set up and for that kind of money i would drop the 2220, I tried the 2220's when I bought the Outlaw 5000 and the 5000 sounded cleaner with less distorting at higher SPL's. The 5000 drove my front stage nicely, it has a large power supply and tested more like 160 watts 3 channels driven, but the audiosciencereview.com guys can explain it better then me.

Not like allot of the the cheaper class D,H or G I tried out, with modern rails or switching power supplies, it provides steady supply and it really does a great job driving our speakers, Stays cool to touch, I was thinking it would be more of a Atmos duty amp but, I was wrong after I demo'ed it. Also it has a lively sound, unlike the dry lifeless 2220 sound imo.

You do have a large room and sit back so if I was to buy a larger amp for that kind of cash i would look at these amps, class AB still sounds better by far imo.
Those 2200 mb's are a old NHT design from 2010, They made small improvements but at $300 each not much you can do really, Happy Holidays! these are my favorites Parasound sells a A32 3 ch.

Thanks I can't complain too much as I paid under $300 for all 3 of my monoblocks. I cut off room correction around the room transition frequency. I found Audyssey took the sound signature away from these speakers. I would love to try another amp to compare as this is really the only one I've ever had besides the AVR. Audiosciencereview gave higher marks to the 2200 in the SINAD department over the 5000.

Nice grab! $300 for 3 you did great bro there selling on Ebay for $250 each used!

All the Hypex class D and Crown Amps hold there own also on charts, whats that tell you, distortion isn't everything, its like trying to tell what a speaker sounds like by charts or tests, its impossible.

the 5000 is true class AB great value amp and has a hell of a sound to it like solid class AB , It doesnt sound cheap like the others i demo'ed, Its hands down better then 2200 or cheap class D boards like Hypex etc. imo.

I even picked it over Emotivas class H or G cheap 5 channel they have with there value offerings, I am sure there more pricey amps sound better though.
If you can afford it, do yourself a favor and demo a Parasound or ATI, Outlaw thats a Class A/AB, the first 10-30 watts has a High class A Bias, "I think i saying that right" All I know is there is still nothing out there imo that sounds anything like the highs and the details of a solid Class A. Its what gives me chills!

Its hard to describe but you will know it when you here it i am on the fence now about buying a class A/AB amp, I promised my wife I wouldnt get to crazy into home theater and that I would be happy with a standard Amp like the Outlaw 5000 but its killing me how much I miss class A.. Demo one and it will give you chills and you cant ever unhear it, once you have its Awesome!

Of course this is after you have your room right and all the other parts of your HT in order, Class A is not cheap but lasts over a decade if you buy the right brand.

look for deals on Ebay or Audiogon from AV Shop selling New with warranty! like this one and make sure its the A52+ new design.

I have read several of your posts F1 and you do know your stuff, I agree with majority of all your advice and I have learned allot from your posts!
My hats off to you Sir!

About the "all amps sound the same comment" good one, is this AutoAudio or Bose forum... :D

OH MY I WISH!! If that was only true... I would of saved a easy 75k-100k on amps, alone over the lasts 35yrs, The new Purifi or Ice Class D boards, are still in no way even close to true pair of Michi Mono Blocks, Here is my Bucket list 2 channel amp F1, Michi or Block Audio, Krell Etc. etc. There all great at this level!

I appreciate the insight. It will be difficult to justify the purchase but I'll start looking to audition something in the Parasound line. If not try the Outlaw 5000. If looking at Parasound would something like the A31 have similar hardware? I think I'd only really amp the LCR.

Yes, the A31 is the same as the same as A51, You have a large room and sit 12 feet back, depending on your listening levels, I would always rather have to much on tap then not enough power.

The Parasound will be the bigger sound improvement its like going to Balanced connections for the first time. Your in the same boat as all of us, we have to do our homework, I suggest going to you tube and watching some of the HT reviews, there is some guys that are full of it but some are solid. You have to weed them out, That is all we got these days and demo programs!

I recommend a JC design Halo Parasound amp with 180 watts or more, You don't need to blast the levels to here Class A improvements, just listen to how the it makes everything seem lively with more energy, details, not lifeless like class D.
Do your own A-B side by side comparisons with your 2200 and you will hear the difference!

Enjoy the ride and Happy Holidays!

    Hey Pawelmwo,
I found this video and agree with his review of the Parasound, He describes what he is hearing better then I can.
Also you will find the Parasound A52+ 5-channel in the used market allot easier for a better deal then the 3 channel, the used market for amps is a great option to consider also!

    Respect!

Wow congrats! how did you convince your better half? :) I saw that the unit is also 20 inches deep which is longer than my cabinet. We have a few Parasound dealers nearby I wonder if they would let me test drive it. Minus the length it’s actually less tall than the three 2200s that are stacked.

Well Bro, I did what all men in my situation would do, I told her and showed her who is BOSS! After that I begged.. :D

No, she was actually really cool about buying it, because of this Covid 19 nightmare going on this holidays season.
My wife said she spent way to much on the CCs this Xmas season anyway, So I could go ahead and buy it, this one time, hopefully it will make this Lock Down easier! She is the Best!

Yes go and Demo a A32 or A51, Don't do what I did and be unhappy because you wish you would of bought the Parasound Later on down the road!

Look at the people here who have all the Parasound amps the A23s to A51s are everywhere for a reason, Don't buy the Parasound Classic it is a nice amp, but to much like the Monoprice or Outlaw straight Class AB sound, You want that Jon Curl sound imo! Happy Holidays!

I told my wife who is boss bro! After she said No I just Begged! :D

She feels bad with the whole Covid19 going on, She told me this Xmas is costing us a fortune anyway! Go ahead!

Go and Demo a A31 or A51 or just lookat all the members here with A23s to A51s, Don't buy the Parasound Classic series it is straight class AB and a good amp but the Halo JC Parasound is on another Level. Happy Holidays!

I just noticed the double posts!
I thought my first post was erased? I have been using my cell phone last week and I have two left feet as hands with that small touch keyboard.. my bad guys.. :D
