[Help] Polk Signature Series + Yamaha TSR-700/RX-V6A

Hi all,
I discovered this community after I bought Polk Signature Series. I would love to get help with my current set-up.
My primary purpose is music and home theater

I have bought the following items
1. S35 Center
2. S50 Left/Right
3. S55 Left/Right
4. S10 Surround (Rear)
5. Klipsch R-12SW Subwoofer
6. Yamaha 7.1 AVR - TSR-700/RX-V6A

I am not sure between the S55 vs S50. I do feel like S55 have better warmth but its too large in my relatively smaller living room.

One main issue that I am having is that I am not being able to get good dialogue clarity and I have tried boosting treble,s upressing bass on center channel, increasing dialogue setting, Adaptive DRC, YPAO Volume on Yamaha.
However when I watch movies like LOTR (HBO Max), Ted Lasso (Apple TV+) and more I am not getting the dialogue clarity. I get better dialogue clarity from LG OLED B7A.

I would love to get your thoughts on opinions on my set-up and if there are other things I could try here.

Others will chime in hopefully but many people have noted that the s35 is not the best center. The s30 is a step up I believe...
Living Room 2.2: Usher BE-718 "tiny dancers"; Dual DIY Dayton audio RSS210HF-4 Subs with Dayton SPA-250 amps; Arcam SA30; Musical Fidelity A308; Sony UBP-x1000es
    Game Room 5.1.4:
Denon AVR-X4200w; Sony UBP-x700; Definitive Technology Power Monitor 900 mains, CLR-3000 center, StudioMonitor 350 surrounds, ProMonitor 800 atmos x4; Sub - Monoprice Monolith 15in THX Ultra

    Bedroom 2.1
Harmon Kardon HK3490; Bluesounds Node N130; Polk RT25i; ACI Titan Subwoofer
  • I do agree with that. I returned a S30 due to space constraints. It doesn't fit in or on my TV stand and it is too tall as it block the TV :(

The funny thing is that I find better dialogue clarity from my LG OLED B7A than with these in some cases. I wonder if it is the speaker or the Yamaha AVR (RX-V6A)

This is what I use to solve that problem: https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B077MJZ6ZG?psc=1&ref=ppx_pop_mob_b_asin_title

  • Regarding S55 or S50 - If your living room is on the smaller side and your finding the S55 physically too big and your utilizing a subwoofer, i believe you'l be perfectly fine with the S50. I've had plenty experience with the S50 and its output is great for its size. Plus thats why they make em in multiple sizes for requirements just like yours.

Regarding dialogue - Since your using the S35, ensure that your crossover setting is set to not lower than 120hz. Also if the center speaker is on a table or shelf, ensure you bring it forward so the front of the speaker is in line with the edge of the table/shelf. Also if its a little low, you can use door stoppers under them to angle them towards your ears (which makes a great improvement).

If you could post a picture of your current setup, perhaps we can better help you further.
