Painting 702 F/X grills white
I'm looking to paint the speaker grills white and re-upholster them with new acoustic transparent white fabric and potentially vinyl wrap the top and base later. Anyone ever paint their speaker grills have any advice as to what paint works? best I was going to apply a thin coat of a spray paint can and do multiple passes. Trying to integrate them into a multi purpose family room. They sound great but not a fan of all the black on the wall.

I would not recommend trying to paint the grills on the 702s. They're not normal grills as they wrap around the whole front of the speaker with small holes running the whole length. Most likely for sound dispersion reasons. Most speaker grills made of MDF or plastic can be spray painted because they're really just open frames that don't affect the drivers underneath. The grills on the 702s are not designed as open frames with space for the drivers to freely put out sound. Adding additional paint to them will likely affect the sound dispersion in a negative way unless you can come up with a way to prevent the paint from getting anywhere but on the face of the grill and not in the "pores" that are part of their design.
Try replacing the cloth and see how it looks without painting. I suspect it won't look perfectly white though.
I got a pair of these last week and set them up in place of a pair of 703s as rear surrounds. I like them enough to leave them in place. The ambient effects are much better spread across the back of the room without losing the direct sound effects. They're a steal at the closeout price. -

Understand adding any paint will potentially make the holes smaller. The idea was to get it on as thin as possible. Ideally would be nice to get a replacement grill pair and do some experiments. But it doesn't seem like anyone is selling those parts.
