New Subwoofer.

I recently purchase the rm6700's with a polk psw 303, I really like the sattelites speakers, and the whole system I think sounds good for music. The problem is that the subwoofer "pop's" when I listen to action movies at the volume I want to listem to them at. I have the sub hooked up the polk recommended way, would using a sub cable provide more stability, or am I simply pushing the little driver too hard? I'll probably invest in a new subwoofer within the next few months if I can't attain the volume I want out of the 303. As a CC employee I have access to Infinity subwoofers at very low prices. I can get the infinity 12" 300 watt subwoofer for under 200 dollars (before shipping). Anybody have an expereince with Infinity subwoofers? I know that HSU, SVS, and Outlaw are pretty much the kings of the sub 600 dollar subs, but I'd have to be sure that one of those guys was worth the extra 3-400 dollars over the Infinity. Oh, and my room size is like 10' by 14' (I know that's small, but the 303 still doesn't give me the volume I want even in a small room).

Trust me, SVS is worth it...over a 1,200 dollar M&K ;) Trust me...I know! LOL!

The SVS PCi 25-31 will rip your room apart.

SVS is accurate and VERY powerful with plenty of extention

My SVS PCi 25-31 (with free 22hz tune) -- hits down to 15hz STRONG in my room
    - Not Tom ::::::: Any system can play Diana Krall. Only the best can play Limp Bizkit.

It sounds like you could be driving the sub too hard, if it plays well during regular play back and only pops when something like a bomb going off and the sub is needed to work harder then that would be the cause. Don't let it happen much more or the sub will be junk. You stated that if the other subs such as the SVS would be worth the extra $$$ the answer is HELL YA!!!!

That pop is the driver over extending itself from its intended length of travel, back down on that gain a bit.

Back down on the gain? I'm not sure what you mean here. And dammit, I was really hoping somebody would say that the Infinity was a fine sub and that a 12" 300 watt subwoofer for under 200 dollars would be good. ;-) Looks like I'll have more explaining to do to my parents when they ask me why I have no money.

The gain is the knob on the sub that could be refered to as the volume knob. Where do you have it set now, half or just above is where it probably should be to safely run.

SVS or Hsu, dude. Even if the Infinity were free of charge, my advice would not change.
