Polk Lsim 702 FX set up help
I just bought four speakers for side and rear surround duty. My room is approximately 12’ wide by 35’ long. I cannot mount rear wall because of long distance away. These are directional speakers. I was thinking two at sides in front of seating and two behind? But set up says four behind seating. Or should I just return or sell two and go 5.1?
Any and all help would be greatly appreciated.

I would try a pair on the back wall and run auto calibration as a test anyway. If that doesn’t work out with good results a 5.1 system would be fine.

If it were me I’d go one pair inline with the seating and one behind maybe 6ft.Oh, Listen here mister. We got no way of understandin' this world. Because of the angle with which the tweeter and midrange fire, the 702s should be placed either slightly ahead or slightly behind the MLP(s). I have mine slightly ahead of my MLP and it fires back at that location and the 2nd row behind the MLPs.SONY VPL-VW385ES, Da-Lite 92" 0.9 HD progressive 16x9 screen, Apple TV 4K, Oppo UDP 203, Anthem AVM 60, D-Sonic 4000 (800x3, 400x4) for bed layer, 2 Crown XLS 1002 (225x4) for Atmos; Speakers: Polk LSiM 705s, 703 front, 4 702F/X surround, 4 Polk TL3 (Atmos), Velodyne DD15 Subwoofer.

Experiment! Put them on some boxes and try them out in different configurations. If you can go 7 ch then I'd advise doing it. Having the seamless transition from side to rear surround creates a more immersion.
As a rule of thumb, you lose 6db when you double the distance.2Ch Tube Audio Convert -
What if they were basically even or slightly behind the listening area? I've got Lsi7's there now.

The thing to remember about the app 702s is the the midrange and tweeter fire at a ~45° angle and so if they are even with the listening area then the listener will be 45° off-axis relative to the tweeter and all of the higher frequencies will be diminished. The LSi7s fire straight ahead so they are fine even with the listening area.SONY VPL-VW385ES, Da-Lite 92" 0.9 HD progressive 16x9 screen, Apple TV 4K, Oppo UDP 203, Anthem AVM 60, D-Sonic 4000 (800x3, 400x4) for bed layer, 2 Crown XLS 1002 (225x4) for Atmos; Speakers: Polk LSiM 705s, 703 front, 4 702F/X surround, 4 Polk TL3 (Atmos), Velodyne DD15 Subwoofer.
