Good Day
I was given a set of Polk Monitor 10s which had distortion in one 6.5 woofer and the other was seized. I replaced both speakers and they sounded excellent. Yesterday I connected my Sansui 2000a and after about an hour, distortion started in both 6.5 woofers.
I took both out and checked them to a low power source and they both are distorted or is this partially blown.
Can you give me any suggestions. Could it be something wrong with the crossover or something else in that speaker since it has not happened in that one?
Also.... Black and White wires.. hummm no red. They were wired as BLACK POSITIVE

Hmm. Maybe you could check the Sansui 2000a for DC offset? Also, that is rated for 35W per channel into 8 ohms and 43W into 4 Ohms and less than 0.8% distortion both THD and IM. If you pushed it too much it could have been clipping.
Black wire is supposed to be positive and White is negative.George / NJ

I checked the amp with other speakers. Heard no clipping before the distortion. The other monitor is fine

Ok I wasn't totally clear that the problem was only in the one speaker. Still. You should check DC offset because you do that check for each channel independently. Could have a problem with only one channel.
How loud were you playing? Was it Bass Intensive music? 35W per channel should be OK, but depending upon the material and how loud the vol., might get some clipping whether you heard it or not.
PS: It certainly couldn't hurt to pop the crossover out and do some checks to make sure there are no shorts in any of the components.
