Purchased from 6ave.com, Oct 2010, and I’m the original owner. Picked it up during a closeout sale that a bunch of CP’ers jumped on. My first SACD player and it was used for a time in my main system but found it’s way to my secondary system. Spent it’s days mated w/the Adcom GFP-750 FS in another thread, the Anthem Pre-2L I recently sold, Parasound HCA-1500A and Polk SDA-1C speakers. My fondest memory is listening to Roger Waters, Amused to Death, and about jumping out of my seat when the dog barks in the opening track. Never mind I knew it was coming…I never got over the realism and still found myself looking at the window to my left before my brain caught up.
The player was retired in 2014 because I’d purchased an Oppo BDP-105 and was moving to Germany, had to downsize, plus, I changed to streaming. I’m also able to rip SACD’s with the Oppo, so contributed to the decision to retire. She’s been in safe, climate-controlled storage ever since.
Never a daily driver and looks brand new with the exception of scratches around the HDMI port on the back. Apparently, I wasn’t very good at reach around's behind my rack. LOL.
Another 79AVi was for sale on CP in the past year and priced at $145. https://forum.polkaudio.com/discussion/190540/pioneer-elite-dv-79avi-dvd-sacd-player Reading into the FS thread, I’d say it had more miles on it than mine and, I believe, $150 is a fair price as a result of age...but worth more in tech. MSRP was $1000 back in the day.
Many cheap players out there that can do SACD but not with the Pioneer Elite badge from the time-frame when the Elite line was still a contender. Nice heft to it and pics of the inside bits show tidy construction. Should also mention it does not do SACD over HDMI but is very good with the analog RCA outputs. Never a glitch and played every disc it was asked to.
Conclusions and Specs from the Sound and Vision website review:
https://www.soundandvision.com/content/pioneer-elite-dv-79avi-dvd-player
“It may lack the latest wrinkle in upconversion (1080p) but only a few of you will find this a downer. In every other respect that matters, the Pioneer DV-79AVi is a superb DVD player. It may be your last SD DVD player in an increasingly high definition world, but if you have a large collection of CDs, DVDs, and perhaps even SACDs and DVD-Audio discs as well, you can pay a lot more than this for only marginally better performance.”
Formats: DVD-Video, DVD-Audio, SACD, CD, CD-R/RW, DVD-R/RW, Video CD, MP3
Video outputs: Two S-Video, two composite, (RCA) component (RCA), HDMI (HDCP compatible, Version 1.1)
Analog audio outputs (RCA): Two- channel (front L/R), multi-channel (front L/R,C, subwoofer, surround L/R)
Digital audio outputs: optical, coaxial, two i.LINK
Dimensions: 16.6" x 4.7" x 13.4" (WxHxD)
Weight: 19.3 lbs. Price: $1,000
Please let me know if you have questions.
Cheers,
John

The tantalizing bits:
First time popping the hood. The yellowish lines on the metal piece above the carrier tray are pen marks from the factory. Looks like they used a marker to note screws or alignment? Very tidy layout.
