I own 3 of these , one of which I use to stream SiriusXM via coax ( bypassing its dac ) to my 851n ....the other 2 are used in pre-amp mode connected directly to amps.

Fantastic unit , it does it all and does it well !

    GLWS !

Any thoughts on the sound of the little Yamaha vs the 851N?

I can’t seem to get the remote to work. I have it directly connected to an Adcom amp to speakers. Am I missing something? Battery seems to be fine. It blinks but I can’t control it. I appreciate any ideas.

    Thanks,

Hard to make a direct comparison - because I have one bypassing it’s dac going via coax into the 851n , and the other 2 are feeding amps directly via rca.

I can say this , I did use the yamaha in my den system directly into the amp before I had the 851. The 851 is undoubtedly much better . Much , much bigger soundstage and the imaging and separation is unbelievable.

That being said , the Yamaha is outstanding in its own right.
It really is underrated, considering that it is a all in one setup - preamp, streamer, SiriusXM, etc.... - especially given its price. If I didn’t feel that way I would not own 3 of them ....

The best thing you can do to improve it’s sound quality is to use the Mconnect app to stream Tidal to it vs natively. That way you will get the first MQA unfold.
You can also use Qobuz full blown high res this way.

Btw , the Yamaha app is fantastic. A joy to use , with all kinds of settings available.
I wish Cambridge would copy it.

Maybe try the app , go into settings and check the remote sensor settings ...
May have to power it on first....

I typically factory reset any devices when I first get them, just for a zero baseline.
    I disabled signatures.

Damn. That did it. I had to go into room>advanced settings>user input and turn on id1 as an input device.
