Any auto mechanics here have access to Alldata?

Looking for a repair procedure from Alldata to replace the water pump on a BMW X5. This vehicle has the adaptive drive system and uses a different water pump than one without the option. It also makes it a lot more difficult.

2009 X5-E70-N52 engine.

I have ALLDATA but in 2009, they went to a subscription based service. So anything 2008 and newer, there's no media or application for. You can thank AutoZone for that, they own ALLDATA now, since 1996, and worked hard to leverage things away from media to a yearly, online subscription service which really burned small, local shops.

You can get an individual subscription for an individual car for like $30 a year or $50 for 5 years but that's only one car. If you have a family with 4 drivers and 5 cars, that'd be $150 a year to keep the subscription running and you can only access it online. So if you're somewhere that you can't get an internet connection and need to access your ALLDATA subscription, oh well, too bad, so sad. Doesn't seem like a big deal but if you're stuck somewhere and need access to get something like a wiring diagram or a hose diagram, it really sucks.

Anyway. That's all at ALLDATA DIY: https://www.alldata.com/oe-info-student-and-diyer

If you're a service shop, the subscription is thousands a year.

So, I'd help you if I could but the info is sparse. Mainly because the N52K was not available in the X5 until mid-2006 and a 2007 model and even then the adaptive drive system doesn't appear to be an option until 2008. All I have in ALLDATA for a BMW X5 in 2008 is TSBs and recall info. I have nothing for 2009.

Thanks a lot for your information.

I called Alldata yesterday, the single car versions are for do it yourself guys like me. BMW doesn’t allow it on their cars. Not sure if I can get the professional version for just one month or not. I can’t figure out the best way to get at it, something will have to be disassembled to get to it. The cars without adaptive drive look pretty simple.

Yeah, there's several companies out there that won't release publication rights for service information to DIY level stuff. Even, like Haynes and Chilton's will have to publish disclaimers that they do not and are not allowed to have the advanced system information.

About the only way I know of to get it is to get BMW service manuals. Unless ALLDATA knows they have in their pro-level subscription. I dunno. I haven't messed with anything newer than 2009 ALLDATA and I have a copy based on an education license.

Try Mitchell. They will do a 30 day thing for a single vehicle, at a cost of around $40.
It’s been a couple years since I needed detailed info, but it worked like a champ when I did.

Thanks for the tip. I gave up once I found a local shop that would do the job for 340.00. I had a rollback come and haul it to them for 50.00.

Even if I had the detailed info I would pay that for the job. Got a little over 800.00 in parts, hopefully that will be all it costs.

Many auto makers now provide fee based online manuals by vin number. Options are usually daily, monthly, and yearly rates. Usually you can download and print the sections/schematics you need. I've done that with Chevy. Be aware that you may have to use specific browser or add plug ins to see drawings/schematics. What you need is usually linked off of the main web page.

This bmwtech site says $30 for 24 hours. Check BMW forums for more details as I have never used it.
