Well, it took awhile...

Finally getting a mini-split AC/Heat system for my shop. They're installing it next Tuesday. It's a Daikin Series 17 (Japanese made). I'll post some pics when it's done.

If possible get the model with the internal electric heating element. I know you're in AZ but if it gets super cold at night the heat pump part is very ineffective below 20 degrees. I have an AirCon 9000BTU mini split in my finished garage, and every now and then I need to turn the baseboards on because it shuts down (I think the coils ice up?).

Oh and maybe ask if you can get a second remote for it from the installer. Not sure about Daikin series, but my AirCon absolutely will not work without the remote, and in the event of a power outage, the unit does not turn back on by itself.
So, are you willing to put forth a little effort or are you happy sitting in your skeptical poo pile?

@steveinaz I am back to square one. After leading me on for almost four weeks (some of the hottest on record here) the contractor told me to find someone else to do the job. I need five for my house. How much are you paying for one?

BTW I went with one of these in my shed, I know your shop is way bigger but this is cheap. https://www.walmart.com/ip/Frigidaire-8-000-BTU-Window-Mounted-Room-Air-Conditioner-with-Supplemental-Heat/868184156

My system is bought/installed by a local AC business. It will be about $2400 installed, and this includes a power run from the breaker box.

It does have a heat-pump as well. We get pretty cold in the Winter, at 4600ft elevation.

I am going with (trying to) Mitsubishi because they do better with real low temperatures, your area probably gets as cold as mine, at least overnight.
  • Steve are you sure your Daikin units are made in Japan ?
I ask because one of our buildings had Daikins installed and they were made in China.
That was like....dang 15 ysears ago, but we would experience 2 to 3 weeks wait times for replacement contoller boards.

Good idea IMO to go with a split system. :)

I'll take a car made in (or by) Japan over China any day. Japan invented quality, vs. China is the Walmart of manufacturing. Just sayin' 🙂
What is this shop for anywhose? Woodworking, car restoration...

As far as I know, Japan. They seem to get really good reviews.

We don't get crazy cold, typically high 20's is the coldest, but we've had a few record days in the teens--though extremely rare. Average is usually low 30's in the morning, warming up quickly to the 50's-60's by mid day. I fully insulated the shop, to include the garage door.
