What floorstanding speakers is the best choice?

I've got an Onkyo Tx-8270 audio receiver (Two channel). Need to know which speakers I should pick. I'm new on this.

At that budget, it's hard to say which is best. You need to try various models to see which one works best with your stereo and room.
Lumin X1 file player, Westminster Labs interconnect cable
Sony XA-5400ES SACD; Pass XP-22 pre; X600.5 amps
Magico S5 MKII Mcast Rose speakers; SPOD spikes

Shunyata Triton v3/Typhon QR on source, Denali 2000 (2) on amps
Shunyata Sigma XLR analog ICs, Sigma speaker cables
Shunyata Sigma HC (2), Sigma Analog, Sigma Digital, Z Anaconda (3) power cables

Mapleshade Samson V.3 four shelf solid maple rack, Micropoint brass footers
    Three 20 amp circuits.

    Monitor 70 Series II
  • Isn't Monitor 70 series II better for a home theater system?

With that receiver and wanting floor standing Polk's in your budget the best bet would be the S55.

I used them for music for a good while and they were pretty good once I added an amp which I don't believe is an option with your receiver. I suggested them because they are within your budget. I've heard a lot of good things about the Signature series from the Polkies and I would go with their recommendation.
  • I recommend Wharfedale Evo 4.4, though it is more than your budget, it is worth the investment.

Unfortunately the Evo 4.4 are $1998 a pair. Good looking speakers though with interesting drivers. Appear to need placement in a large room too. I'd be concerned about someone smoking those fancy tweeters with a smallish stereo integrated into a 4 ohm load.

Welcome to Club Polk! I would imagine the Wharfedale's are a great speaker but like @Emlyn stated, not a great match for a mass market AVR. Now if the IP is looking for a platform speaker to start his journey on. Yes, by all means but we have yet to hear his long term goals.

    $500 - $800

This is off kilter a bit but look if you are looking for Polk Audio I'd look for a pair of Monitor 10's, SDA 2's or if not Polk look at some Klipsch KG4's, Infinity RS series. All of these though are getting long in the tooth and would need the crossovers upgraded but with a few hundred dollars and some of your sweat equity you could have a great sounding speaker well within your budget.
    Gustard X26 Pro DAC
Belles 21A Pre modded with Mundorf Supreme caps
B&K M200 Sonata monoblocks refreshed and upgraded
    Polk SDA 1C's modded / 1000Va Dreadnaught
Wireworld Silver Eclipse IC's and speaker cables
Harman Kardon T65C w/Grado Gold. (Don't laugh. It sounds great!)

Polk's signature series is very good with music. I own a pair of S55's and the center imaging is really good. If your a bass head, you could try the RTIA9's but I heard RTI series isn't that great with music. I have the ELAC Debut B6.2s, and those speakers are very revealing and accurate, I can imagine the ELAC towers being the same. You throw compressed music (like Spotify) at the ELAC's and you can hear the faults in the compression.
