    In all some seriousness ;) I do like the Collin Street fruitcake -- although my preferred route of administration is, shall we say, noncanonical. When we get one, we put it in the freezer. It incubates there, typically for a long time. Once in a while, in the Holiday Season, I'll cut a little wedge of the frozen fruitcake and enjoy it just like that.

    Sort of like bad American beers, you know? A Miller or a Bud ain't bad when it's so cold and you drink it so fast on a hot day that you don't have to deal with the taste at all!

    true. Carson postulated that there is actually only one fruitcake, which is endlessly regifted from recipient to unlucky recipient. :)

    Why would you freeze it, that junk has a half-life like Uranium Pew38?

    My mom used to leave that carp just sitting in the cabinet and if it got too dry she would rejuvenate it with brandy or Bud light or something.

    My mom and a bunch of her sisters used to have fruit cake making parties every season, they would send the cakes to hapless victims all over the country, some kind of weird biological warfare.

    I used to watch them mix huge vats of that stuff, the batter looked like a baby ate the crushed glass out of a kaleidoscope.

    you know -- since the subject of fruit cake has been broached -- despite my Germanic heritage... I've never been too crazy about Stollen. It's dry and kinda nasty.

    Some years back, Mrs. H found a recipe in The New York Times for what they claimed was good Stollen. The recipe is pretty serious and takes a fair amount of time and effort... but you know what? The danged stuff is good. Now she makes some every year. We give it to people at Christmas time. Yes, even people we like.

    The best German pastries that I have had were in Vienna. The Schnitzel in Vienna is also very good! Figlmueller's in Vienna is fantastic! It's as good as a pastry :)
