The only good thing out of this is I got me a new Husqvarna chain saw out of the deal to start cutting trees and I got plenty of firewood. I had people's shingles and siding Debris in my yard the west end of the house lost all of its shingles deffinetly looked like a bomb went off around here. So who else experienced this Derecho and how did you fare? Finally got power back yesterday still no cable or internet. Thousands still without power and probably wont have until this weekend.

No house damage here. Our two cities lost a bunch of trees. Power was out for a few hours in parts. No rain in our part of town just high winds

Not in the mid-West, but we had a Derecho a few years back in the mid-Atlantic. Things were messed up for a week, and that wasn't quite at the strength of the one a few days ago. Good luck with cleanup.

Two tornadoes hit here. Lots of damage. We got lucky the tree fell the way it did.

We were fortunate compared to some of the folks in our Plainfield neighborhood. Our River Birch suffered a broken limb which pulled some facia partially off. I fixed that already. Duct taped a small saw to a drywall sanding extension and sawed the broken limb off while sitting on the roof.

It could have been worse, this EF-1 was close.

We got nailed pretty good with 106 mph wind gusts reported just north of us. Our neighbor's weather station reported 89mph before it died a horrid death.

2 of our younger trees will have to be staked in hopes that they recover. Right now, they are leaning like the tower in Pisa, Italy.

My antenna was also torn from the roof (mounting plate and bolts were ripped from the roof, the antenna itself fared really well). It damaged the sheeting and killed some shingles which I replaced later that evening.

TONS of trees around town that were literally uprooted.

Bearing in mind, there were no reported tornadoes as this was passing through Iowa...just straight line winds.

I had never heard of a Derecho until we got nailed it was treacherous winds that lasted over an hour, 100 mph was reported then constant wind for that period of time tore this town up, just like the pictures Ryan posted from Des Moines is how it looks around here thousands still with out power. I did hear Russ rode the storm out so glad you Des Moiners survived minus the property damage. We had a big hail storm a few months ago my neighbor just got a new roof and siding on his house last Friday two days later his Tree fell on his house the poor guy has to file a second claim. I hope this is the last Derecho I have to go through 23 counties in Iowa were declared disaster areas .

Thankfully we started heading west on Saturday with my brother and his camper trailer and missed all the excitement. I didn't see any damage in the yard on the cameras and no panic calls from the neighbors. I didn't know about it until Mom texted to ask if we were ok.

Sorry to hear all that. My sister lives in Iowa and lost part of her roof and is still out of power. Never heard of this type of storm before now either. Sustained winds with heavy rains can do some serious damage.
