Cheap garage AVR that sounds decent?

It's actually for my shed. Need wifi so I can stream from my NAS. Needs to be cheap like a couple few hundred. If you kind folks could point me in the right direction I would be much obliged.

Why an AVR and not two-channel?

I mean, depending upon one's "definition" of "AVR" there are great bargains out there -- you know, this stuff is obsolete after 18 months, so the resale value plummets essentially in real time. Gotta love the relentless march of technology :|

Even as I type this, I am listenin' to the news on this "5.1" era monstrosity.
Found it in the electronics scrap at our daughter & son-in-law's town dump. Someone paid $10 to get rid of it. Well built. Worked fine as found (needed to have controls cleaned).

@mhardy6647 AVR for the flexibility I guess.

@Mikey081057 I am pretty sure I will keep the AVR in the house and send the N303 to the woodshed.

    Speakers?
    Inputs?
    signal processing?
sheer number of innies and outties on the back?

Couldn't you use any old receiver or AVR with out WiFi, connected to a cheap DLNA compatible Blu-ray player like a Sony BDP-S580?

Better yet any old receiver & a chromecast audio will get the job done.
  • Wouldn’t those option require an HDMI input source on the receiver?

Chrome cast audio has a dual purpose 1/8" analog/optical out.

You do have to put plex on your puter and the stick FYI...I’m not sure how to connect directly to a NAS but there are folks here that do!

My Synology NAS came with Plex server as an available add in. All I had to do was get into the NAS GUI and install it. Then install the Plex client software on devices where I want to listen to tunes. Everything talks to each other through your home network. I can also listen to my entire music collection away from home on my iPhone using cellular data service. Then Blue Tooth it to some better speaks. Plex is kinda cool.
