tweeter question...

being 18 and fairly new to the whole home theater thing, there's been one thing that i've been pondering but never actually thought to bring it up here:

i've got the 7500 satellites. from what i understand, these have the old dome tweeter (correct me if i'm wrong). with my year trade in deal at circuit city coming to an end in march, i'm really considering trading up to the 7600's. the question is, what is the difference between the tweeters in these two models? (tri-lam vs. dome) i know the differences between the driver materials but i never really could tell the difference between the tweeters... is one really better than the other?

considering i paid $550 for the 7500's, i'm probably looking at around $300 to $400 more for the 7600's. my 75's are still in great shape, but i thought that i might as well take advantage of my one year trade in before it comes to an end.

...all opinions and advice will be greatly appreciated!

    Joe-

The dome tweeater is a higher end unit.
It comes on the top box of the rt3000.
How much better is it? Depends on many things, your hearing, room acoustics, etc.
Does your current system please you?
Most are in search of more bass, not more high end.
In which case for that 300-400, you could get more subwoofer.

thanks for the info! i'm currently running a PSW650.

it's not that i'm exactly looking for more high end, it's just that i figured i could trade my 75's in while i had the chance. my first choice would be the 76's, but only because they're the replacement for the 75's that i'm used to.

i've considered trading in and buying seperates, but i'd really like to wait for the new RTi line. i figured that 38's in the front, 28's in the back, CSi30 for my center, and my 650 would sound pretty nice together, but i'm not sure if that setup would be a sonic improvement over just buying the 76's.

(in case you're wondering, i'm powering everything with an H/K 310)

i think you would notice great sonic differences between the two speaker systems, the 38/28 would give you a much fuller sound stage. if space is an issue though, the 7600's are a good choice.

with your discount, can't you get the 25's, 35's at a great price right now?

I agree with juice... while the rt's current are being discounted...they will probably get discounted even more. Now we have not heard the differences in the tweeters yet..but IMO at discount price..getting some 25/35's and a 400 would definatly be a big bang for the buck.. probably 360 in sound difference in music... I have heard the 7600 and they are great for ht... not a big fan of them for music

i've considered the 35/25 combo but the closest circuit city to me with any left is 75 miles away.

i've got kind of an odd shaped room. it's like 35' by 11', and the ceilings are just over 7' feet. since there are some pipes at one end of the room and a staircase at the other end, i am forced to run my stuff using the width of the room.

other than having to mount my surrounds into a wall made of concrete blocks, i really haven't had any problems. i've got a sofa ordered from la-z-boy, so when that arrives i'll be able to take some pictures.

with such a small area, the 75's have been great (and the paino black finish helps too).

i guess the whole thing behind my original question was...
people kept telling me how great their 55i's were with the new tri-lam tweeter. with my 75's, i still had the dome tweeter. well, i was set on switching to the tri-lam when i notice that the new RTi line has switched back to the dome tweeter... why is this?

    thanks for your help!
