Insane gas bill

Being retired I am trying to live on my monthly Social Security check, and not touch my savings. This has been fine for the last 18 months or so. Since I have solar, the biggest part of my monthly utility bill is for gas, and, being summer, that is never much, around $20 a month. So today I get the July bill, and it is $10,000 for gas. Yikes! After calling, and being on hold for an hour, the rep agreed with me that $10K is a bit high for a month. Now I have to wait 2-3 weeks for a new bill. Hopefully it will be back to normal.

    That was my first thought. However, something is added to the gas to make it easy to smell, and it is odor free. I guess I should try using a match for leak detection. :)

    double :o:o Wow, that sort of leak would definitely have a good smell around your home and if trapped in a confined area with the correct mixture of air and an ignition source ,would definately cause complete combustion . :#
    Sounds like a Faulty meter ?
    Soapy water and a spray bottles is good for locating leaks!
    I do hope you don't have to pay that one.
    Having a local or friend that is a plumber/gasfitter could test your system!

    Things like this worry me as we have given full authorisation for automatic draw downs on all our bills to date ! There is this slight concern with going paperless.

    That is a good point. PG&E is constantly pestering me to setup automatic payments. I always decline since an online payment is so easy.

    I do auto for almost all bills. They send you the amount BEFORE the draft. You can always stop it if something’s amiss...and since it’s a credit card I could do a charge back for a clearly asinine charge like that...

    Around here- they have had a lot of issues with the new electronic meters.
    I don't think it's the meters so much as they don't document the current reading
    correctly before installing the new on. Almost everyone gets a heart stopping
    bill after the change.

    Yes, the person I was talking to was saying the electronic meter hadn’t been working for a while. Now I am waiting for the new, fixed bill.
