Preferably within different price ranges (could be anywhere from $200 to $200,000)... I have been looking for a while and can not find any type of general guide of buying home theatre equipment or which brands are good/bad.
Any help would be appreciated.

You can try the reddit home theater FAQ's. I've found them helpful. It's not an end all be all but a good start.
