TSi500 vs. S55?

Hello, everyone,
I am in the market for a set of floor-standing towers. I have used the Crutchfield's SpeakerCompare tool and listened to several different speakers and for those within my budget, I like the sound of the S55. However, I have seen very good reviews of the older model TSi500s as well, and now am waffling between the two models. Unfortunately, Crutchfield says that the TSi500s have been discontinued and therefore I cannot sample their sound. I am looking for anyone to give me some advice on which would be better for me.
I will be using the speakers in a fairly large area, a basement. They will almost exclusively be used for music, that is as of right now, I don't have plans to make them part of a home theater system. As far as types of music, I listen to several of different genres from hardcore punk, hip hop/rap, jazz to classical. Because of this, I want a set of speakers that will do well with all types of music. If I had to name a genre I listen to most it would be alternative/indie/punk.
As I said before, I like the sound of the S55 test, but the stats for the TSi500 look very good and with the four separate woofers, I could see how they might do better for a diverse range of musical genres.
Any advice would be very much appreciated.
Thank you!

S55. It's a more advanced design and has better driver technology.

What will you be powering them with?

By the way, welcome to the forum!
  • Hi, Clipdat, Thanks for the advice! Right now, I will be powering them with a Yamaha receiver sending 100 Watts per channel, but I hope to connect an amp at a later date.
Thanks again for the warm welcome!

I didn't care for the TSi series personally. Signature series is a nice step up. I would definitely go that route.

Let us know when you get everything setup! and Welcome!
