I noticed that in the Polk Sig Series manual it is reccommended that the towers (S50/S55/S60) be set to large when using the bass managment on your AVR or processor? Why would polk suggest this?? Just curious...
My Setup: Denon AVR X3600h, Polk Signature S50 Fronts w/ S30 Center and S15 Rears, LG UBK90 4K Player, TCL 6-Series 65”4k TV

(I'll start this by saying I'm a two channel guy, not a home theater guy, so my word isn't to be trusted until someone who knows better affirms it.)

That said, Polk recommends it because (as you probably know) setting to large will send bass frequencies through the front mains, and the towers are capable of reproducing that bass, given they have enough power behind them.

What is your receiver? If it is a particularly underpowered/low current model, then you can improve your sound by sending those frequencies to the subwoofer, which has its own amplifier. That gives more of the amplifiers capability to the rest of the spectrum, and puts less stress on the amp (a recipe for better sound. :) )

If you have a very nice (probably $2k and up as a guesstimate) AVR or separate amplifiers, then you will have little to no detrimental effects to the rest of the frequency spectrum by sending them bass, and you can (if time and care is taken for proper setup) get fuller bass by having both the mains and subwoofer producing lows.

    Good luck!

Edit/P.S. I just noticed you are not a new member and have quite a nice system, so you probably know what I've said, but I'll leave it for others who may view it in the future. :)

↑. What he said. If you’re not running subs, set them to large. If you have an underpowered AVR, don’t push them too hard into clipping. Otherwise, enjoy!

If you are using subwoofers, all your speakers should be set to small with a crossover point of around 80hz to 100hz (even higher if the woofer on some of them is 4" or less). (Leave the subwoofer LFE setting on default 120hz and set to LFE (not main+lfe).
