I have been buying used Thinkpads for quite a while now -- you can freaking drive nails with 'em (you know, if such a need were to arise).

I use a T430 for the course I teach in Boston... because... well, you know, Boston.
;) One gorgeous early fall afternoon a couple of years back, I was sittin' outside at a table, enjoying the scenery :# and a random "kid" (student) walking by stopped and said, "Is that a T430? Nice!". And we had a little chat about old laptop computers.

I think it was sort of like a young gearhead of today admiring a '65 Corvette. B)

I still have a Thinkpad T43 and T400 in-house. I think I maxed-out the RAM they can address with stock CMOS, but the HDD are rather puny. I've considered installing SSD in them, but for casual 'surfing', a Chromebook works a treat. If I need real 'computing power', I use my 'company laptop', or personal desktop...which actually does need updating.

One nice feature on those old Thinkpads is the keyboard. The keys have more substance to them than current laptop 'thin' keys. I can type faster with the older-style keys. Now...having said that...put me on an old IBM Selectric typewriter, and be prepared to cool down the keys as I burn it up! :D Ah...high-school memories of typing class: "Ready...Eyes on copy...Type" [stopwatch click]

There're... a couple... of Selectrics... downstairs.
    The Rolls-Royce of typewriters.

    ... but I digress...

With the IBM Selectric, it's all about the 'golf ball':

    But I, too, digress...

not as much of a disco ball but bigger case and 280mm AIO

We each got RTX 3070, his friend works at Best Buy and was able to get them for us.

So his is now an I9-10850k ASUS ROG RTX3070 with 64GB RAM

    I took his I9-9900K added in a Gigabite RTX3070.

    Not bad

    $1k

I was thinking of a used Parasound but the RTX3070 came up at pre tax hike price.
