The right channel both has MW6600x and is dated 81.... So possibly these speakers had the left channel replaced with the incorrect midwoofers (mw6503 in 1987...and then again in 2000?)

Polk still had mw6600/mw6501 in 1987 so there would have been no reason to sell someone the mw6503's

In 2000 they had made a run of very popular drivers and the mw6501 was one of them. The only difference between original and new was the dust cap now covered the voice coil leads on the drivers on the new production drivers.

The mw6600 does come up often on ebay. The mw6501 well that one is really rare on ebay. Very rarely do I see them.

    How many you after?

So, I'd need two best case AT LEAST one... I guess if I can find two MW6600x I should replace both the inner and outer woofers on the left speaker so they match the right speaker.. one to replace the frozen inner woofer and one to replace the working mw6503 on the outer woofer

I'm bidding on one MW6600x on eBay but the seller is away until june 2nd. There are also FOUR mw6501 @ 40$ea listed on ebay.. I may grab one of those as well so all the drivers are MW6000x besides one MW6501 (Until I can find an additional MW6600x so the drivers match all around)

I will have an extra fully working MW6503 after I switch for the 6600/6501's if anyone needs or would like to trade a 6503 for a 6600/6501?

Interesting as I see nothing in those two drivers on eBay with the exception of a passive radiator that for some unknown reason the seller has listed as a mw6501.

    Found this one

I'd be very careful about these. The 16 ohm on the meter is WAY WAY OFF. It should be around 7 ohms. There is something wrong with that driver. Might have had magnet slip and that may be causing the high ohm value.
  • I guess I should wait for responses before I buy stuff from now on.. Lol.

I purchased 3 speakers. Two I got were listed as just 4x RTA12b woofers and had a picture with the label as MW6501 and no meter readings... The other one was listed as a single rta 12b woofer and had a label of MW6600x and a meter reading of 9.8..2u00h617d7sa.png

I hope they work for you but anything higher than 8 should be suspect. All mine all measure in the 7's (7.6-7.8) for ohm value and I know every one of them are in great shape. If you look at the specks on the first page you'll see that they should be around 7.75ohms.

good luck and be patient it pays off well in the end.
  • How different are the MW6000x vs the MW6501? As in... Should I even worry about trying to match all four woofers?

When I get the two MW6501 I will measure them and report back.

No they are too similar to worry about. Polk may of mixed them in the speakers they sent out whether it was the SDA1 or RTA12. My SDA1 signatures came with both in each speaker from the factory according to the original owner of my SDA1's.
