Summertime Blues

Pretty hot today, and I have to switch to summer mode for listening to music. While I prefer this time of year, my amps generate so much heat that listening to music becomes unbearable. So it’s time to adjust for the heat.

Well, I'm gonna raise a fuss
I'm gonna raise a holler
'Bout workin' all summer
Just to try to earn a dollar
Well, I went to the bossman
Tried to get a break
But the boss said 'No dice, son,
You gotta work late'
Sometimes I wonder what am I gonna do
'Cause there ain't no cure for the summertime blues
Well, my Mom and Poppa told me
Son, you gotta earn some money
If you want to use the car
To go riding next Sunday
Well, I didn't go to work
I told the boss I was sick
He said 'You can't use the car
'Cause you didn't work a lick'
Sometimes I wonder what am I gonna do
There ain't no cure for the summertime blues
Gonna take two weeks
Gonna have a fine vacation
Gonna take my problem
To the United Nations
Well' I went to my congressman
He said 'quote'
'I'd like to help you son,
But you're too young to vote'
Sometimes I wonder what am I gonna do

No. The AC keeps the house nice and cool, but I only use it when it is really hot, such as 95+. When I first got these amps it was in July for the last two weeks. I ran the AC constantly during the last weeks of July, and freaked out when I got the bill. So, I had solar installed, and that made a big difference, but I still had to pay PG&E when I played the stereo.Lumin X1 file player, Westminster Labs interconnect cable

What?!? I could maybe manage not running the AC if we didn't have such wicked humidity.
Did you upgrade the cable on that fan to a Shunyata?I disabled signatures. -
It gets 73 in here and I nod and wink at the A/C like, “you know what to do”.

A nice thing about CA is no humidity. According to the thermometer over the amps the humidity is now 20. It’s a dry heat, and no I haven’t upgraded the power cable.

I crank the A/C and don’t worry about it. Might cost me $50 a month. $50 a month to increase the A/C. Not the total. Difference would be $150 to $200. Sorry if I confused.

If I got a new AC I’m sure it would be less expensive. This AC was installed two home owners ago in the early 80s. Not the most efficient in the world.Lumin X1 file player, Westminster Labs interconnect cable

The vt60 ARC amp used to cook me out of my listening room after about 2 hours.
That's with the ac on. I went to the McCormack, good to go. Ac was set to 77
since the wife always complained about being too cold.
Moving away from Dallas, most likely this wouldn't of been as much as an issue.

Yes, that's right. They are designed to support the gear, and the ones on top are excess footers. Rather than let them go to waste I put one on top of the gear. Whether they reduce vibrations I have no idea. I think they have a subtle sound effect, but can't prove it.

I’m in my 4th house, all around 3000 sqft, and all but one under 10 years old (one brand new). We keep the air around 76-78 and I can’t remember ever having a bill under $200. Summer (5 months of the year in Texas) is usually in the upper $300’s to lower $400’s. Over $500 a couple of times. 18 years in DFW, now about 100 miles away. I need a radiant barrier, more insulation, and more efficient windows.
My current place has a shop that has a separate electric bill and it’s $30 a month for a refrigerator, stereo, air compressor, and occasional vacuuming of the car. Lights are very seldom turned on.Things work out best for those who make the best of the way things work out.-John Wooden -

Blue Cheer of course! Bud, it’s in the 20’s in Wisconsin this morning, we’re in the middle of record breaking cold weather. Yesterday the high barely cracked 40. This is going to last until the middle of next week. -

@BlueFox , have you considered installing a mini-split to cool your listening room? Not too terribly expensive to install and pretty energy efficient. Those fans are just moving the hot air around and probably aren't as quiet as a mini-split.
-
Good suggestion, Dave. You can also look into Mistbox for your A/C. Bud, if I were in your shoes, I'd either move or remedy the situation. Having a rig but not being able to listen to it because it would make me very uncomfortable is an unacceptable combination.
