A Parasound p/ld 2000 would be interesting as well but I’m intrigued by the Adcom.

Try a Cambridge Audio 840E. That is the pre I had before the Pass, and it sounds great. Last year my Pass broke so I had to use my 840E in its place, and it was very close to the Pass.

What is a driver card? If this is in the signal path I'd be worried that "replaced with a modern equivalent" affects the sound that the original designer wanted.
They are probably referring to the optional printed circuit board for the balanced input that goes where the blank cover is on models without this feature.
