I wanted to thank you for sharing this. I downloaded this and there are some well recorded songs on this album. Once a year I like to make an audio related post, so after this, I'm good for a year. One of the songs on this sampler I already had.

    Chris Jones: No Sanctuary Here
    FLAC
    16-bit
    3:46
    23 MB
    d5kh9d7o8i1y.jpg

The sampler offers 24-bit FLAC, so now I get to compare the sound quality of 16 vs. 24 bit and see if I can pick up on any differences. I have not listened to both, one after the other yet, but I'm a bit perplexed by something. The HDtracks sampler of the song is:

    Chris Jones: No Santuary Here
    FLAC
    24-bit
    3:46
    22.9 MB
    bd8mgmlmqdne.jpg

Shouldn't the 24-bit track be significantly larger in file size than the 16-bit? Or am I not understanding this. I thought this would be a good question to ask here.

From my perspective, all of your posts are audio-related. Heck, I probably quote you more than anyone @Hermitism! If using IMG tags counts as a quote ;)

... and to the OP, thanks for the heads-up! If I don't have to, like, give 'em the routing number to my bank account to get the free D/L, I shall do it anon.

Mark, I know your audio taste and you'd like song #4 on this sampler. It's sort of folky. It has a little bit of everything. It even has the theme to Alfred Hitchcock Presents.

Are you able to see the FLAC compression level? Perhaps the newer one has more compression (1-8)? Here's an example of one of my FLAC's...look under "Encoder Settings".

Damn, I just typed out a reply and somehow I lost it. You might be on to something, but I can't seem to find encoder settings using Windows or foobar2000. I'm still looking into this...

It's downloading even as I type this -- I already had an account with them... who knew? :p

WIthout searching for a definitive answer...I believe DBPoweramp, my ripping program, adds those properties to the Windows environment when the software is installed.

Thank you for taking the time to help with this. I was baffled. I use EAC for ripping. I think your theory makes sense.

I post all the time, but my posts are usually just nonsense. Pictures and such. Once a year I like to make a post that will keep me from being shunned.

    "Z" omission? o:)
So, are you willing to put forth a little effort or are you happy sitting in your skeptical poo pile?

Yeah, I think this is probably the case, and also may have something to do with the default application for the file type.

Herm, you could try another music player. Check out MusicBee 🐝, and see what you think.

Thanks, I haven't gotten one of these since 2016. BTW this collection is way better than that one.
