Hi everyone,

I have recently(5 days ago) purchased a pair of perfect condition sda-1a and would really appreciate some info on these wonderful speakers. I have been combing the forums for information and think I have come up with a good bit but, still desire more. The system I curently have is mostly likely not good enough to run the speakers so I am looking at buying a new reciever and would like to know what might be suggested by people who actually own them. The person I bought them from was using a carver the reciver 6250 and was selling it also but wanted way to much money for it. I would like some suggestions of some things suggestions in the moderate to best buy price range with reasoning behind. I hope I am not being to demanding I just do not want to damage what are a terrific pair of speakers. Also in regards to the tweeters the owners manual says the speakers come with sl 1000s not the sl2000s that everyone mentions is this a misprint or is this just a really old pair? Thanks in advance for any response given:D

    Welcome to the forum.

If they are the 1A's then they should have SL2000's in them. Do the tweeters look like fish eyes with twisted wire coming out of them in a straight line to the left and right?

A receiver would not be my first choice, but if you're sold on them, you will need one with a high current drive and a minimum of 200 wpc to make the SDA's come to life.

What other info are you looking for that isn't in the manual?

A very good integrated or seperates. How much are you looking to spend?

    F1nut,
I aplogize as i am fairly new at this and am not sure what you mean be integrated and seperates. I'm not really sure how much just yet I think it woul be best to get a idea of the costs involved. Any help on fully understanding what is ivolved, needed, and the costs would really help.

It's fairly simple, a integrated amp has both the pre amp and amp in one chassis. Seperates are just that, a seperate pre amp and a seperate amp. Take a look at www.audiogon.com for examples of what's out there. You could get into a nice integrated (used) that will drive the SDA's for around $1500.00 or so. You can find both integrated and seperates for less and alot more.

I am currently running an Adcom passive pre and a carver amp that is pushing 450W at 4ohms (~400 at 6Ohm of the speaks) and this ran me $400 total with shipping. You could probably get a decent setup at about $250-300 on E-bay ($150-200 amp, ~$100 pre) and meet the 200W/channel that is generally recommended
