    I remember him well. There was a Harlem Globetrotters Hanna-Barbera cartoon back in the early 70s (1970-72), and a live-action variety show in the mid-70s, "The Harlem Globetrotters Popcorn Machine" (1974-76).

    I can still remember kids in school "doing the Curly Neal" while playing basketball in the gym in grade school. :p

    I have had a few basketball players I have worked with in the past have the fortune to travel and play with the globetrotters. I have gone to see them play a few times and the organization couldn’t have been run better. True philanthropy, community engagement and downright fun. I never met curly Neal but grew up watching him and meadowlark lemon. And from all I heard from the few guys that played with them, ALL of them - but especially Curly, were class acts.

    I got to meet him on several occasion as my jr high coach was a Globetrotter..Goose Doughty! and Goose was a excellent Tennis player and had more tennis trophy's in his house then anything else!

    When Darnell Valentine went to KU he took our high school coach with him. so they gave Goose the high school coaching job. and Curly use to show up almost every year!

    Took the grandkids to see the current team of Globetrotters. They were good, not like the old guys though. Still great mix of talent and comedy the GT's are known for. Rip Curly.

    the 1st time I got to meet Mr.Neal was in junior high...then later I remember in High School when our new GM Coach was Goose Doughty..during gym class we would play 1 on 1 and if you called out our coach or he had the ball.. he would do these half court hook shoots that I swear ( not lying) would always go in LOL...was so awesome we all worship him truly!

    he was the Wichita Heights Basketball Coach for many years! a truly excellent person!

    no smoke blowing here! he taught me more about bowling then any one else :'(
