I took my good ol Pioneers...and the POS Pioneer receiver...

I went down to my aunt's friend's house where they were having their party...

and got them playing, filling up over an acre of land with sound.

BAH NAH NAH NAH...

I am AMAZED they still work! LOL

Very interesting how much abuse these pioneers will take...

good bass too, but I need to find a cheap fixer up sub.

    Sid,

    I think what F1 was trying to say is that you might really dig being a DJ; hence, the unleashing of a monster. I know I sure the heck did when I was younger. Being a DJ is way cool and a lot of work at times to keep everybody happy. One tip though, make sure that the pretty girls get their fair share of what they want to hear (at friends parties and stuff). You might just get rewarded for that.;)

    Seriously though, regular party DJ's make alot of money. If you invest in the right equipment (made for mobile DJs), you can make some serious EASY money. I know a guy that DJs at a bar/restaurant in between band breaks. He works all of 2 hours a night spinning music and gets a cool $150 in cash.

    Mobile DJs doing weddings, birthday and other various parties can get anywhere from $75 - $100 an hour. I've always thought about investing in some mobile equipment and doing this as a part time gig, but right now I'm just too busy. I got an offer on my plate though from a guy that has his own DJ company. He'll supply me with everything (equipment, music and a company van) if I'll do some parties that he has scheduled. Naturally, I won't get the previously mentioned rate of pay, but it'll be good. Just don't know if I want the hassle right now.

    The biggest things you need are:

    1. Tons of music. Just when you think you have alot, guess again. I have monthly subscriptions to Ultimix and Top Hits USA that run me about $100 a month. I also use Comcast Rhapsody to download music, not to mention CDs I buy in the store. You're constantly buying new and old stuff to try and keep up.

    2. Good mic skills. Gotta be able to speak on the microphone! Took me quite a while to learn how to speak on the mic and bring out the best in my voice.

    It can be fun and profitable. Shoot me an email if ya need help with music companies and/or some places to get equipment.

    Man you guys have it made nowadays with computers, mp3s, and playlists. Talk about convenient!

    Back in my day, I used to DJ informally at college parties. All the women wanted to hear was stuff like Egyptian Lover, Information Society, Depeche Mode, Noel i.e. "Silent Morning", AKA "Cruel Lovin", NIN, Giovanni "Running Man", you catch my drift here. These were the wild dancing keg party days. Even to this day when I frequent bars / clubs and some of these oldies start playing the women's eyes light up and they grab a man's hand to the dance floor. They seem to love the "older" stuff down here south. Not sure about what them yankee women like to listen to up there. Just seems that today's music is more techno based.

    Cool part time job you have there.

    Well, I by no means am heavily supplied with a butt load of music...

    The deal was pretty much this, they supply the player and the cds...and Ill supply the sound.

    The Pioneers were belting it out man...

    They ran for about 4 hours at 110db 3 feet away. Incredibly LOUD. They are about 96db eff

    I would love to get my hands on a pair of Klipsch Chorus and a Cerwin Vega LW 15 (?) sub...

    That would be incredibly loud...LOL

    Not to mention that this lil 10 year old pioneer receiver packs a wallop. It actually has a very large power supply, but rather small caps.

    I would like to setup a DJ rig/Garage rig consisting of

    Klipsch Chorus (102db Eff)
    Cerwin Vega LW15 x2 (Concert level bass)
    Cheap stereo preamp
    Soundcraftsmen PCR800
    Yamaha CDC 585

    That would be awesome. BAH NAH NAH NAH NAH

    I plugged these up in my Mom's den last night for her to use...

    These things actually dont sound all that bad. It might be just the placement, about 8-9 feet from the speakers, speaker about 7-8 feet apart, with the speakers about 1.5 feet from the wall behind them. At the seating position there is a good 4 feet behind the seat.

    The left side opens up about another 10-15 feet, and the right side opens up about 5 feet.

    The soundstage these cheap 3 dollar tweeters and 15 dollar midranges put out is rediculous. Stuff coming on the side, behind you...just friggin amazing what they can actually go in their price range.

    The overall sound lacks clarity, has some punch (but this is because I set the 100hz on 0, and the rest on -10 -- this is because she mainly watches movies and they lack bass in the large room.)

    The sound is kinda muffled, due to the eq...but nothing TO bad. The mids are kinda harsh...lack real texture and depth...

    the highs are very unnatural, no real sparkle..seems as if the drums are totally absent, cymbals etc...

    Sounds bout like Pioneer honestly...

    But they do great for movies...and the soundstage they put off is spectacular!
