It's been years since I listened to 4 Way Street on cassette in my car. Always liked the tapes. I now want to pick up some compilation that is going to sound good on my 2 channel rig. Of the two listed, which would you buy(assuming of course that you are a fan of the group).
Yep, my name really is Bob.

I sort of recall that 4 Way Street was an unimpressive recording but I could be wrong I haven't heard it in ages.

That's my recollection as well (FWIW) -- and I don't think the performances really rescue it from the sound quality, either (again, as I remember).
There's a copy of it here someplace on vinyl, but I haven't had any urge to listen to it (again, FWIW).
So Far was/is a nice 'greatest hits' collection -- albeit one that doesn't cover their whole history -- and sounds just fine, as well, at least on vinyl.

Here's a contemporary review of Four Way Street from Stereo Review (Sep. 1971), offered strictly 'as is'.

$2.72 used? For a double CD? Looks like a pretty good collection

I can only comment on the vinyl versions of the album. Great music but the original 1970s vinyl did not have great sound quality. However, they issued a newly remastered and expanded 3lp vinyl version during last year's RSD and that one has excellent sound quality and is a big step up from the original vinyl.
